12156 Quit And Give!!!

I would imagine there’s a very large proportion of people here who smoke and have been wanting to kick the habit for absolutely ages.

Well now there is a good cause to add as an incentive.

Quit smoking for a day and give the cost of the ciggies to the Italymag fund. The more days, the more money, obviously, and before you know it, you've stopped!!!

I deleted my first post because of linking problems,

Well, I think this is a great idea, well done you, I will give it a go tomorrow.

You will need to add the Italy fund link to your original post, alongside the save the children one of course. This will give people a choice as to where they donate.

I will mention you if I manage it, now go grazie JC - another quid because of you :winki:

I am smoking more now through being on constant tenterhooks over these bleedin quakes! 4 in the paat 30 minutes, biggest being a 4.0

Anyway, it is a good idea and I will give it a go, If I fail, I will give another £5 anyway.

I've donated the money for my 40 imaginary fags that I would have smoked had I been a smoker. I usually only smoke when I'm going fast :laughs:

Well, it’s a beautiful morning in Lollyland, here I am sat on my Wickes decking enjoying the birdsong, I have just dunked my last morsel of croissant into my fair-trade Mochafrappelatte and now would be the time when I would normally partake of my first coffin nail – but not today

My partner has removed all temptation including my zippo lighter with a picture of the Vatican on it (I bought this last time I was in Rome from a darling Chinese chappie) and my emergency baccy and Rizlas. Such a supportive soul, I am very lucky

So as I push the ashtray aside I think the best plan is to keep busy, I am off to ‘bottom’ the bathroom :winki:

Justgiving - ITALY Magazine Abruzzo Earthquake Appeal

Excellent idea, Sally. It will help the fund and it will make people healthier.

:smile:Thanks Sally, a great idea and every pound or grazie counts.

So far so good,

My taps and tiles are gleaming, towels folded and fluffed and I have replaced the push button air freshener just in case any dubbed children need to pop in for a pooh (I really hate those ads don’t you?)

What next ….. I shall strip the bed, sheets are so much nicer line dried. I must admit I have let things go a little over the holiday weekend so today is a good chance to get on top of things.

But first, green tea and a hob nob

Justgiving - ITALY Magazine Abruzzo Earthquake Appeal

Indeed it is a good idea. OK, so the smokers won't save any money - especially if they donate all that they would have spent on their ciggies for a day - but hey - who cares if it boosts the coffers of "OUR" fund?

That £7.5k beckons and if even the price of a cup of coffee, let alone the current price of a packet of fags in the UK these days (equal I think to the National Debt of some third world countries  ), is going to help us achieve that target then it's got to be worthwhile.

Being an 'ex' smoker I can appreciate the difference it makes if you can give the habit up - and even if this is only for a 'token' one day - it just might be the step that will lead to someone quitting long term, so there's an added bonus.

(But sorry - I've got to ask - do they really cost £5 for a 20 pack these days in the UK?????)

.......

Excellent idea.

It made me think of all those poor people who were dragged from their ruined homes with nothing but clothes they were wearing. I wonder how many of them are smokers, who might, in a time of anxiety and shock, desperately want a cigarette.

So I’m going to donate some cigarettes to the collection in my local supermarket.

I hope others will continue to support the fundraising in any way they can, even non-smokers.

Starting to cloud over a bit now, why does it always happen just when the peg basket comes out. :madd:

Well, I am feeling OK, hardly thinking of the dreaded weed, feeling a bit peckish though, I think I had best hide the hob nobs and prepare some healthy snacks to get me through the day.

My darling has just called to see how I am getting on, bless such a little love, I jokingly asked where my smoking tackle is hidden.
Glove box of the car, well I ask you, surely I am more trustworthy than that. :veryconfused:

Yes Carol, £5 plus a packet :eeeek:

Is it only 11am, gosh I have got loads done. Prepared my snacks, carrot battons, chopped fruit in cranberry juice and little cubes of cheese and olives.

Thought I would take the opportunity to clean out the fridge at the same time,
WHY ??? do people put empty jars back in there, I really fancied a gherkin – might be having words later,

and ....... what happens to the lids off tuppaware containers, probably in odd sock land. :Dancing_peevedoff:

Must dash. It has started raining

Just a quick progress report before lunch.

Primula cheese spread and marmite on toast (Warburtons of course) and Walkers crisps (cheese and onion) dipped in Heinz salad cream, gnum gnum !!! lol !!!

Sorry if you can’t get these food items where you are, but I think you should suffer just a teensy bit with me.

After lunch I shall indulge in a bit of ‘me time’ a long soak in the bath with lavender bubbles I think, but then ….. I will have to clean the blummin’ bath again !!! never mind, busy, busy that is the key.

Words of encouragement wouldn’t go amiss here. No grazies, not even from a hamster, no matter I can do this without you.

Justgiving - ITALY Magazine Abruzzo Earthquake Appeal

I feel your pain. Hang on in there.

Changed my mind about lunch and went for a bacon buttie instead, granary bread, salty butter and Heinz ketchup - delish

Well I feel much better after my bath, the calming properties of lavender are really quite amazing, here is what Wiki has to say.

Lavender - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As I soaked, soft music playing, I imagined myself on a long haul flight to somewhere exotic - couldn’t smoke then could I ??? Actually if my other half were home it might have made a half decent calendar shot.

What to do next is the question, cross stitch, knitting maybe - NO, I shall paint the fence, looks like the rain has passed over.

It is amazing what a difference just one grazie can make, thank you I feel much better now. :jiggy:

Normally, after lunch, hamster (Lolly) and I, curl up on the sofa and watch a nice black and white film on the telly.

Today we are going to stay logged in, every hour, for your epic journey through the day without any fags.

Lolly suggests nibbling on sunflower seeds to help stop the cravings and she also says you can have a go on her wheel to get rid of some of those calories :winki: after your bacon buttie.

Keep going Lollita! Remember who you are doing it for.

Right enough manual work for one day, I have to do everything around here, GLOVE BOX, I ask you ??? :twitcy:

I am sick of drinking tea (can you smoke tea) and daytime telly is the pits. I think chocolate is called for, yes, a big bar of Green and Blacks and a DVD. Might even get into my jim jams.

Something loud and stirring, CARMEN and for those of you who think I may be losing my sense of humour, here you go

Proud of yer

I did it!

But sadly only whilst I was alsleep!!

There goes another fiver.

Well done, keep it up. Will check price of UK coffin nails tomorrow to cheer you up. And the empty jars in the fridge thing is definitely a boy thing, can't think why they do it either...

Suck mints  stick at it Furface!!

........ as Snow White said

Right whose silly idea was this ??? Sorry Sally, only joking, but what are the rules :veryconfused:
A day is 24 hours , does that mean 24 hours from my last smoke bearing in mind that I was asleep for some of that time (is that cheating) Russ has donated for this reason.

Is it 24 hours from 8am this morning when I accepted the challenge, in which case I will be asleep for some of it too.
Is a day just up to say 6pm when it then becomes evening.

Please advise me.

I am feeling a little alone here, lovely little Lolly is trying to cheer me up but she is a pipe smoker and just doesn’t understand.

To the kind friend who suggested I watch Carmen – you know who you are – very funny NOT !!!

I am off to alphabetisize my CD collection

Hi Lollita

:Dancing_wub::Dancing_wub::Dancing_wub:

We're rooting for you here in Arezzo, in awe too :notworthy:

As for 24 hours, in this altruistic cause, I think you get to choose :-)

Keep going Lollita - you can do it....

Had a brain wave, an inspirational book, none better than The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper, an old but still relevant tale of triumph over adversity.

Lolly (hamster), say's she would like it if you built her a new cage out of the cigarettes in the car glove box (oops).

I think there is merit in her suggestion:bigergrin:.

I want an explanation

WHAT has been going on here?

WHY is my darling Lollita rocking in the potting shed, muttering one lousy grazie, over and over, I hate to see my little cupcake in such distress.

WHEN did this start, did none of you think to contact me?

WHO put my special muffin up to this; yes you may well look embarrassed:reallyembarrassed:

WILL Lollita make a full recovery?:goofy:

WHERE is the missing grazie?

HOW will I now get to watch the footie?

By the way the glove box is bare, I hid the ciggies under the ironing pile, I knew that wouldn’t get touched. We’ll laugh about that later, won’t we? The fence looks nice though. :winki:

I demand that all responsible should be brought to justice.:policeman:

My heartfelt thanks goes out to those of you who have supported Lollita today, please keep giving,

Who can you turn to in times of stress, why your mother of course, I telephoned and explained my situation.

“No sympathy” says she, “you never should have started, but would you listen, oh no you always knew best, you get that from your father.”

“Yes mum, but I need your help now !!!”

“Do you know it makes your mouth look like a cat’s bum?”

“Yes mum.”

“Do you know it will make your skin as hard as tortoise shell?”

“Yes mum.”

“Do you know it will knock five years off your life?”

“Bye mum.”

Well, they aren’t going to be the best five years are they?

Hang on I have just noticed Lover has posted, some explaining to do, glove box eh. :nah:

By chance or by fortune, though I cursed at the time, the computer has been down all day, phew, after reading all this, and smoking all day, I have been let off...for now. Good idea Sal, so sorry I missed it.......not.Well done Lolly!
A:bigergrin:

Well I have to confess, I have failed miserably, I found them, between my Baycity Rollers trousers and a rah rah skirt.

Those of you who know me well will understand the strain I have been under today, not the ciggies, no no no, the typing. I have just about worn out the spell check option.

Why may you ask have you put yourself through this, well it’s simple, I want your money, you can help in many ways:

If you are a member and have not already done so, please read this thread by juliancoll - make me pay!

Click the grazie button and £1 goes in the pot, not even your money

If you are a guest or lurking, why not join us and make a donation here, give what you can, it starts at just £2.

Or you can join in with the other fun stuff that is going on at the moment; Pigro’s quiz is one to watch for, a guaranteed £100 maybe more, grazie mille Pigro. Only £2 to enter.

Let us not forget our very own pocket Hercules, Ghianda for his buck – naked contribution. The generous offers of holiday accommodation from many. The photo competition, which should be fun.

Many thanks to Ronald for his help and support.

If you have enjoyed sharing a day in the life of a smoker, remember, I may still be a smoker but I have a choice, and not just about smoking - today I chose when I showered, what I wore, when I ate, what I ate. I am wearing my own shoes and tonight I will sleep in my own bed. Lover of course is in the spare room.

Please donate as little or as much as you can.

Sorry Lolly, I have smoked your cage :reallyembarrassed:

You brave, brave girl:yes:.

OK, you failed, OK you have Bay City Roller Trousers in your laudry basket, OK, so you smoked poor Lolly's cage. But you gave it a damned good go.

You'll just have to make up by 'shining' in the quiz tommorow and submitting a brilliant photo for the photo competition.

Sunflower seeds in the post.

Lollita, you did brilliantly and we're all very proud of you.

FYI I didn't make it to 8:00am before my first cigarette today (but at least I'd bought it in Italy at €4.30 a pack!):laughs:.

Not good news, sorry to report, just popped back for more beer, I am hiding from my little Eccles cake, till the dust settles, at my next door neighbours. Well actually if I am honest, he has SKY and I wanted to watch the footie :winki:

Lollita is back in the potting shed, she is rocking, far worse than before, she smells of smoke with a hint of lavender.

She keeps chanting, it’s silly, it’s silly over and over, (well I think that is what she is saying) can you help, I am at a loss now.

So tomorrow you cruel folk, as you walk to your jobs in the city, and pop in at Pret a Manger, for your Mochafrappelatte with wings and extra foam, at £3 a pop, think of my fair-trade, organic, slow food, locally sourced, nicotine starved little carrot cake, rocking in the potting shed, and give, give, give, to the people of Abruzzo.

By the way Acorn, cute buns, I am a new man.:nah:

Hi Lollita

Thanks from me too, its been great being part of this fund raising effort. :smile:It looks like that little word Thank You is as difficult as Sorry for some.

Brava.

Well done Catinacoat. Think of it as one day with clean air and not one day senza Marlboro. 3.5 years without the Marlboro here, and I'm still thinking of the gains - improved health, no fag breath, rich beyond my wildest dreams, reduced risk of dying a horribly long drawn out and painful death etc etc.I don't feel like I've given anything up, just gained loads.

Is there a self righteous emoticon?

Likewise, think of this thread as 37 nice clean posts. :laughs:
