Buongiorno Italy readers!
With the beginning of returning events to visit in person, we look at what's happening both in the real and virtual world this month in our June roundup!
On Italy’s Republic Day, June 2, some of Florence’s most important museums and cultural sites reopened to the public, following the reopening a week or two earlier of such iconic sites as Palazzo Pitti, the Boboli Gardens, the Museum of the Opera del Duomo, the Cathedral, the Baptistery and Giotto’s Campanile. Let’s have a look at what has reopened and what the new rules and opening hours are for the time being.
June 3rd marked a change in travel restrictions many Italians have been looking forward to. Now it’s possible to travel again between regions of Italy, which had been forbidden since March 9 except for reasons of work, health or emergency. Italians are now free to start planning their summer vacation or reach their second homes, or simply, to move freely.
Now that Italy has reopened its borders to European travel (as of June 3), let’s look at the new rules for flying safely.
Our online pick-of-the-week is this handy guidebook to day walks in the Italian Dolomites. The 50 graded walks range from short leisurely strolls to full-day high mountain expeditions, each designed to fit into a single day.
Our dual-language articles of the week explore the Unesco Sites of Italy. This week we 'travel' to Val d’Orcia, an exceptional example of the landscape redesign that characterized the Renaissance.
Our #recipeoftheweek is "pesto bianco ligure" - a lovely pasta sauce (and not only) hailing from the region of Liguria, a type of "pesto bianco" made with walnuts, garlic, and ricotta.
In Italian, there are two verb tenses that can be used to discuss the future: the simple future and the present conditional. The first covers discussions about a certain future - plans, projects, schedules - and the second is used to indicate an uncertain future - dreams, hopes, aspirations. Whatever the rest of this unforgettable year may bring, here’s how to discuss it in Italian.
