Traveling during the low season has its obvious advantage, prices are generally lower, destinations are less crowded and you feel like you have the place to yourself. When it comes to Italy, a visit during the off-peak months of the year usually offers a lot more; local events, festivals, sagras are always right behind the corner and can make your visit truly special. Last weekend, I travelled from Milan down to Parma and took the chance to stop in Cremona for the Stradivari Festival, which was a fantastic mid-october experience. But that was not it! There was also a fantastic vintage cars race, with such gems as the 356 Porsche, 1930s Lancia’s and much more, a celebration of the various immigrant communities from the area in the main cathedral and a typical 'mercatino' with all the seasonal products. This month we will continue to report on some of these fun and interesting local events throughout Italy, just make sure to bookmark the ones that might make your next visit to Italy even more amazing.
