Italy's largest park is perhaps also one of the least-well known - but this summer would be a great time to discover it.

The Pollino park, between Basilicata and Calabria, extends over 192 thousand hectars and contains within it 56 towns.

For those who have yet to visit this part of Italy, this summer might be a great time to do it. The Pollino park offers a rich set of events ranging from the traditional sagra of the red aubergine to the Pollino Music, Art and Dance Festival, as well as some rather unique modern art installations.

At Noepoli, in the val Sarmento the renowned artist, Giuseppe Penone, has created what he calls a "Teatro Vegetale" - a theatre made of natural elements with a centre piece a water mirror that reflects the audience back to the centre of the stage.
