Tax on pensions

I plan to retire to Italy in 3 - 4 years time and leave the UK permanently. I no longer want to pay any tax to this country (UK) but worry that I may be financially worse off in Italy. My pensions will be quite modest (state + 4 mediocre private schemes), how does the Italian system compare? Is there an allowance followed by a standard reduction or is it more complex? I'm sure there are many of you who have chosen to dump the UK covert corrupt system for the Italian overt corrupt system.

A lot has been written about the dangers of overheating

A lot has been written about the dangers of overheating Teflon coated cookware. Toxic fumes can be extremely dangerous for our health. Personally, I have never liked that type of cookware and I do not buy it anymore.

On the other hand, ceramic coated, top stainless steel, even copper (if handled with care) are better materials for cookware.

I particularly love the Italian Piral range of earthenware pots and pans as they are superb.

Christmas recipes

Submitted by Annec on

I may have asked this in the past, but don't know how to search old posts. Anyway,we're spending our first family Christmas in Italy this year. Any favourite recipes gratefully received. We're having roast beef (ribs on the bone) and no doubt roast potatoes. Found a recipe which includes gravy consisting of a whole bottle of red wine!!!

Since my grown-up kids don't like brussels sprouts, no doubt it'll be a boon to them if they're unobtainable???

FLORENCE'S ORTO DEI SEMPLICI

In another thread, we were discussing Tuscan herbs and "funghi porcini". Tuscany is a paradise for herb lovers and many varieties, such as rosemary, sage and "nipitella" grow wild. It is always a pleasure to buy fresh herbs there if you cannot grow them at home. Most Tuscan dishes are heavily condimented with herbs and butchers have their own special blends. But herbs have been traditionally used for a variety of reasons, particularly in folk medicine.

Flooding in Liguria

We go to this area every few years.............such a disaster for the people there..............

A number of British holidaymakers have been left fearing for their homes and their lives after severe flooding swept away properties and cars and killed at least five people throughout the Cinque Terre region, near Tuscany in Northern Italy.
