The small town of Cortemilia, one of the main centers of the Langhe, has for a long time been considered the “Capital of the Hazelnut”, a product which made it famous beyond the confines of the region. The core of the old town is made up of many medieval houses along arcaded streets while the river Bormida divides the town into two boroughs.

The landscape surrounding Cortemilia is distinguished by terraced hillsides, an ancient solution to make the steep surrounding hills suitable for cultivation.
