Questions Asked

RAI, Enel and TV licenceHi, I have a house between Florence and Arezzo and it is a second house (i.e. not my prima casa and I don't have residency status). I use it about 4-5 weeks a year and don't let it out commercially at all.

Hi

Thanks to Geoff and Ann for that information - I may use that if my other options (see below) don't work out.

I have had a reply from InsureMyVilla who say they do include earthquake cover (it's an option) as long as you haven't claimed for it before. The quote was about 10-15% more than my last year's Intasure cover (for the same buildings and contents excess but lower rebuild cost as I didn't need the full £1m that Intasure gave as standard as my house is very small!) but still seemed reasonable.

I also contacted A-Plan insurance and spoke to someone who said that they also cover earthquake in Italy (and knew that Intasure had stopped doing it) but the brokers were not available (it was about 4.55pm) and they would call back today. So that may be an option too.

Hope this helps people - it looks as if Intasure will be losing a lot of business this year!

Regards

Simon

Schofields just informed me they are not taking on any new business underwriting homes in Italy now.

My Intasure insurance runs out on 19th Oct so the clocking is ticking!

i contacted the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBAS) and they say the only broker they have who deals with homes in Italy is Intasure.

I need to keep looking........

Hi,I am in the same situation. I knew about the TV licence bit (although as I am on a non-resident tariff and don't have a TV I didn't think I had to pay it) but also ENEL now seem to be adding an extra €11.25 per month for "Spesa per Oneri di Sistema" that was never there before.  My bimonthly bill has now gone from €25 to €70 even when I am not there at all! Has anyone else experienced this - what is it for and can it be avoided? My house is in Tuscany - has anybody experienced switching to Enegan for a holiday home?ThanksSimom

Thanks for all the repliesI have checked my Enel bills and I am definitely on a non-resident tariff so I assume this means I should be OK?

Hi Thanks for the comments - I do use an excess insurance company (insurance4carhire.com) at £49/year. It was more the fuel issue - I hope that this is not the thin end of the wedge and that all companies at Pisa will move to a compulsory tank of petrol. Simon
