Un Cuento Chino by Argentine director Sebastian Borensztein has won the Marco Aurelio jury award for best film at the 2011 Rome Film Festival.

The story of a friendless hardware store owner and a Chinese man who comes to live with him also took home the audience award for best picture.

Two films shared the special jury prize, which was awarded to both Fred Schepisi’s Australian film The Eye of the Storm and See How They Dance, a French film from Claude Miller.

Other winners at Friday's award ceremony included Noomi Rapace, who won best actress for Babycall. Guillaume Canet was awarded best actor for his part in Une Vie Meilleure.

Richard Gere was also honored at the film festival with the lifetime acting award.
