Da Vinci’s Demons TV Series Premieres

A new TV series about Italian artist and inventor Leonardo Da Vinci premiered yesterday.

Described as an historical fantasy, ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’, is an eight-part series that explores the story of Da Vinci “inventing” the future at the age of 25. It stars English actor Tom Riley as the Italian genius. English actress Laura Haddock plays his lover, Lucrezia Donati, who was also the mistress of Florentine ruler Lorenzo de’ Medici, who is played by English actor Elliot Cowan.

The series is the result of a collaboration between American broadcaster Starz and BBC Worldwide. ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ was written by David S. Goyer, co-writer of the Batman superhero movies ‘Batman Begins’, ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.

‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ had its world premiere screening at the Cinema Teatro Odeon in Florence, Italy on 2 April. The series premiered on TV on Starz in the USA yesterday,on 12 April, and premieres on Fox in the UK on 19 April, on Fox in Australia on 16 April, and on Fox in Italy on 22 April.

The costume drama was filmed in Swansea in Wales. Set in Renaissance Florence in the 15th century, the series uses computer graphics to help bring the city to life.
