The intriguing crime series "Detective Montalbano" based on the novel by popular Italian writer and screenwriter Andrea Camilleri is back on Rai 1 with 4 new episodes starting Monday 14th of March with Il Campo del Vasaio (The Potter's Field) and following on every Monday until the 4th of April with the following episodes: L’età del dubbio, La danza del gabbiano e La caccia al tesoro.

When, in 1994, Camilleri published the first in a long series of novels, La forma dell' Acqua (The Shape of Water), written in Italian but with a substantial sprinkling of Sicilian words and grammar structure, no one could have imagined the fame and popularity its character Inspector Montalbano and the imaginary Sicilian town of Vigata would have achieved in Italy and around the world.

Translated in over 30 different languages and having sold over 13 million copies worldwide, there is no question that Camilleri is the contemporary Italian literary star. With his extensive experience as a director and screenwriter, it does not come as a surprise that his books perfectly translated into amazing movies.

The TV adaptation of Montalbano's adventures, starring the perfectly-cast Luca Zingaretti, was an instant success from the very first episode. The location of the movie, the sunwashed Sicilian province of Ragusa with its breathtaking countryside and seaside, the quality of the direction, photography and acting, but most of all Montalbano's character, with a personal war against his professional ideals, his commitment to his beautiful long-distance girlfriend in Liguria and his constant flirtation with the ultimate temptress, his love for Sicilian cuisine, make this crime series one of the best product of contemporary Italian fiction.

The episodes of the series are now available in DVD collections here and you can also watch the episode in Italian on the RAI TV website.
