The city of Lucca has always been my favourite. Not only because it is only 25 minutes away from our home and I go there at least two or three times a week, but also because you do not feel like a "tourist" there.

In this icy cold weather, hot drinks and comfort foods are a must. Preparing and consuming them are good ways to spend time when we cannot venture outdoors.

The cold weather is affecting most of Italy and creating difficulties concerning energy supplies. Russia, the most important supplier, has been reducing the provision of gas up to 30% due to increasing demand in their area.

Whenever we are in Italy, we love to visit antique and vintage markets and fairs, looking for that special piece that we would love to have. Sometimes, we find it...

One of my favourite activities in Italy is to visit those markets that sell antique and vintage items.

Some members may have noticed that I have been fairly quiet for the past month and a half. The reason for this was that we have been visiting our daughters who live in San Francisco (CA).

The new Italian government has been announced and it is obvious that we will have a fight between technocrats and politicians.

A lot has been written about the dangers of overheating Teflon coated cookware. Toxic fumes can be extremely dangerous for our health. Personally, I have never liked that type of cookware and I do not buy it anymore.

In another thread, we were discussing Tuscan herbs and "funghi porcini". Tuscany is a paradise for herb lovers and many varieties, such as rosemary, sage and "nipitella" grow wild.

Colby, further to my previous post, there is a bank account that can be opened at the Post Office in Italy http://www.posteitaliane.post/english/retail/financial-products/bancoposta-click-account.shtmli cannot give an opinion as we use another bank, but I know that some members have accounts with the Bancoposta. Perhaps they could give you their views.in any case, good luck!

Colby, a PO Box does not constitute a residential address. In any case, to get your Codice Fiscale you only need to complete the section "Residenza Estera" on the form I sent you the link for, by inserting your current address in the USA. You are not going to find an Italian Consulate while you are in Italy. What I meant was your nearest Italian Consulate in the USA, as you mentioned that you wanted to do as much as possible prior to your arrival.to be honest, I do not understand why do you want to open a bank account in Italy unless you have already decided to purchase a property. If I were you, I would check with my bank in the USA to see which bank represents them in Italy and withdraw monies using their branches. Bank accounts for non residents in Italy attract heavy charges, most of them taxes. If you think at it, banks are there to make money and the type of account you wish to have is not a good commercial proposition for them, unless you wish to get a mortgage, or have investment funds, etc. yes, in the USA, there is a big variety of bank accounts and services available... For people who reside in the USA. If you are a foreigner without legal residence it would be almost impossible to open a bank account in the USA.

Ugo, do you have to take the opportunity to start an unwarranted personal attack? The choice of certain words , particularly one, reminds me of the old gang that gets banned, moves on and comes back under a new identity. I think that I must be one of the very few here who still uses our original ID.now that you mention it... I "strongly" smell the rat...

Ugo, I am not trying to scare anyone. This topic about the reluctance of some Italian banks to open bank accounts for American citizens has ready been raised and discussed in this Forum in recent times https://www.italymagazine.com/post/while-not-question-it-will

To obtain the Codice Fiscale, you need to contact your nearest Italian Consulate. Look for it in the Web, you can download the form under "modules tics", but this is what it looks like http://www.consnewyork.esteri.it/NR/rdonlyres/C573DB0B-1880-4E02-A65A-87FD4997675A/8272/MODULARIOcodicefiscale.pdfBank fees are not particularly low in Italy, but besides charges you will also have to check convenience and location before deciding. Also, some Italian banks are reluctant to open bank accounts for US Citizens because of what they consider excessive reporting demands from the IRS. So you may have to shop around. There is a recent thread on this topic.hotels are generally paid using credit cards as a guarantee, not by bank transfers, hence the reluctance.

According to this article, they could have a real value http://ilpiccolo.gelocal.it/trieste/cronaca/2014/01/25/news/quelle-100-lire-del-37-il-buono-del-regno-vale-oggi-30mila-euro-1.8532053i will try to find some information on Agitalia.

And you have turned this into a personal attack, which is something that you enjoy. here is a name for it: "agent provocateur". And you have not proved your point and I did advise to check locally as well. But then, you read what you want to read... Not a surprise...

I have to disagree with the above statement. Leroy Merlin is a retailer, so they will sell items which are also available from a local Brico shop. The advantage is that you have a large choice to check and compare from. As for price... Usually smaller retailers have problems matching prices offered by large chains, but still, it is always a good idea to check what is available locally.

It will be easier to find the type of shop you need near Perugia. Leroy Merlin has everything you need http://www.leroymerlin.it/negozi/perugia-bastia-umbraOtherwise, you may Google "fair da te Umbria" and you may find some shops, like the Brico Io chain. I remember seeing the type of screens or stores you mention in Tuscany, so they should also have them in Umbria.
