I have a regular sum of money sent over from the UK every month. This month however the money left my UK account and has yet to arrive here in Italy (Banca della Marche).

I saw this comment from a Californian news item............Emerging Cuisines from Emerging Markets - As the world grows smaller, the selection of cuisines grows larger and guests’ palettes are begging to try new flavours.

It will take a quite monumental event to prise us from our wonderful life and friends here. BUT,................. what/where is the future for the younger generation here ?

Being a full time resident here in Italy, we are having a month or so on holiday in another EU country (not in the UK, our country of origin). Does anybody know what 'travel' related health cover are we 'entitled' to ?

"Mr Berlusconi told Italian television: "Life in Italy is good. The restaurants are full. It's difficult to get a seat on a plane they're so busy; holidays are all booked up."There you go then, no financial crisis here !?S

I look forward to the replies from the experts on this one. I have one particular (very fast growing & spreading) plant on our rockery which is in direct sun all year around. I THINK it is a viburnum, I will definitely have bought it here in Le Marche. Bring on the experts ! S

Hi rachel68, It is a VERY interesting situation that you have, I sadly am not in a position to advise directly...........BUT, my general thinking is to play with a 'straight bat'. I think it would be VERY likely that you would be granted residency here as there is a bit of a 'self-declaration' ethic here at times. I tend to think that you are likely to be paying more tax in Italy by playing the straight bat, but you will feel better for it than risking the wrath of the tax people here. Think positive...........where do you want to be? do you want to do things correctly? Do you want the risk of worries ? Good luck and enjoy this wonderful country............. S

I have a general problem with this tipping malarky as............a 10% tip can be for service if you just order a coffee, a starter and main, or the full blown meal with bubbles and wine (as I guess SirTK did with his $400 bill !). But, if you happen to select a 10 Euro bottle of house wine OR a 50 Euro bottle of 'high quality' wine, the waiter is not doing anything different BUT he gets a massive increase in tip just because you have asked for a more expensive beverage ! Also, are you not paying 10% on the IVA as well to the waiter? So, you select high price products, the service is the same but the waiter gains from your 10% all ends up ! S  ps: my general theme is, if I'm happy with the service (and I usually am), I leave a few euros, certainly no more than 10 ! surprise

We arrived here 4 years or so ago and were somewhat stunned to find that we didn't have to pay 'Council Tax'. We thought that it could not possibly continue, so we are happy to contribute to the wellbeing of our comune. S

Thu, 04/12/2012 - 06:47

A simple standard letter would indeed be good, butit is not the Comune's job to collect taxes, it is however our job to pay them ...............indecision I must look at Penny's website (thanks Penny).............I read also that there is some sort of 200 euro amount that you subtract once you have worked out the total ? !
