There is a lot of speculation around but it seems certain that ICI will return on the prima casa although at a lower rate than previously.

Does anyone use ENI for gas & electricity? I fancy their new boiler deal but you need to be a client of gas and electricity.

Can anyone in or around Ventimiglia tell me what it is like getting over the border to France/Monaco at the moment? We have a small baby and don't want to get stuck on a train/in the car for hours at some checkpoint. Thanks

Did anyone go to the meeting in the town hall last Monday about parking in Amandola? I couldn't go but wondered what was said.

I use www.redcoon.it for most of my appliances as they are very reasonable. Otherwise you could try the electrical shop on the industrial estate in Comunanza (in front of TR gomme). They are always changing their name so I'm afraid I've no idea what their name is now. Or the one opposite Avio Fioravanti - little shop but they are very helpful

I had firends who spent 1/3 year in Italy, 1/3 in the UK and 1/3 in Australia. They were tax resident nowhere! So I guess not. Mick Chick - I think you would have to unregister with the comune (tell them you are returnng to the UK would be the easiest way) and not spend more than 3 months at a time at your place in Italy and not more than 181 days in any tax year (Jan to Feb) in Italy. The biggest implication would be if you got a reduced rate of purchase tax when you bought your house by claiming residency. I don't know what would happen if you renounced your residency before 5 years are up. You might be asked to repay the difference plus fines etc. Once upon a time I would have said - how would they know. But now the tax man seems to know everything.

My housekeepers charge extra for a call out etc which is perfectly fair enough. They also charge me petrol money if doing anything other than standard changeover plus a higher rate if doing repairs etc. I pay for just the cleaning, linen and meet & greet. Anything else is on top. I still think €150 is too much. That would be half my weekly rent and would mean I couldn't offer short breaks at all. After bills and taxes there would be nothing left!! I wouldn;t be happy paying extra 'in case' hiccups happen. I am more than happy to pay 'if and when' they happen (as they always will).

We're definitely not the tinkering types so I don't think it's for us. Thanks for the info though.

I think that seems a lot Sprostoni for a 2 bed appartment. I'd expect to pay around € 8-10 an hour (more if they are legally setup & insured etc - €15 an hour or so). How long would it take you to do it? Be honest though - it takes a lot longer than you think!

Hmm - might be interested in the Defender. Do you have some more details? Model, age, mileage etc....

Hi Brianm, I'm afraid it has to be an authorised Italian PEC provider otherwise the #italian authorities won't accept it. The Post Office does also do it but they charge €36 for a digital signature for 3 years.

If you are uncomfortable about travelling on your own then why not do a course (painting, cooking, yoga, Italian all spring immediately to mind) for the first week or two. You will make lots of friends and some interesting opportunities migth present themsleves. My only other comment would be it is the height of tourist season in August so most places will be busy. If you will be on your own be prepared to be chatted up!
