Interesting thread, obviously any heating system has to be tailored to the individual property and indeed inhabitants. Sagraisolar was only trying to be helpful.  From my point of view the first thing to consider is insulation and draught proofing-in our property this should save around 50% on energy needs. A 3kw Solar FV set-up is a no brainer and this will enable an electric immerser to be employed to keep the thermal store topped up. OK no swimming pool or such-like but with solar thermal , a wood burner and an electric back-up I reckon our energy bills will be minimal ...oooh perhaps ENEL will be paying us!!! I fully intend to do most of the work myself and it will be a steep learning curve, but there are some lovely people about who provide free and detailed advice.

No need to go to the Vet in the UK, the palaver is only for entering Blighty.

Interesting. So the water table is pretty close to the surface, so a  borehole would be pretty cheap, easier and safer than digging a fairy tale style well.Mmm, would the Commune ever know?

Woops! If they have a pet passport then it's just the timing of the  Drontal and Frontline  application to worry about, our Vet in Rimini charges 20 Euros, very reasonable. We then drive up to Rotterdam within 36 hours to catch the ferry.

Check out the DEFRA website , but the important thing is the rabies injection followed up by the rabies blood test, our dog Pablo was a stray from Spain, he needed to spend 7 months in kennels after the rabies shot before he could travel to Blighty. Pablo is now a regular if not entirely at ease continental traveller!!

Rubber feet are certainly worth a try, but I guess the lady downstairs is pretty sensitive to the sound and she'll still notice it..maybe she'll get used to it.  Perhaps  a large G&T before she retires would be an idea!

Think green! Most Italians get by with 3kw or less and so can you.  Just plan ahead. As it happpens the Italian motorist had the smallest carbon foot-print in Western Europe for many years, largely because of the horendous cost of petrol, however recently , Italian Autostrada have started to resemble the Autobhans of Bavaria -so hello gas guzzlers!! Things may change ofcourse.........

The Tories have a history of preferring VAT to income tax, more difficult to avoid but hits poor people most, remember Howe doubling VAT to 15% then Lamont increasing it to 17.5% to make up for the Poll tax fiasco, so the latest increase to 20% is par for the course. No VAT on food though, so I suppose we have something to be grateful for. As for buying baked beans from ASDA why bother? The tinned French Haricots have less salt and sugar and taste ten times better! As it happens I'm more worried what the Tories have in store for my final salary pension!!!
