I can't talk about other parts of Italy but every time I’ve hired a car in Sicily from Palermo the staff never inspect the car with you, they just tell you where it is parked and tell you that it has been inspected by them.On more than 1 occasion I have had to go back to the office and point out damage or half empty fuel tank. Last time the car was dirty with wax drops (the car had been washed but not wiped with leather) in an attempt to hide damage but fortunately I noticed damage after a careful inspection. The care hire companies must be so desperate that they heavily rely on illegitimate claims for damage and fuel to boost their income. They must earn more from this type of activity than actual car hire costs.

Thanks again Fillide. That looks like the type of material i need, it's a bit more expensive now, cheapest i could find was white 120ish euro here:http://www.mdcolori.it/vernici/56-quarz-paint-acrilico-bianco-latta-da-lt-14.htmlI could have misunderstood my cousin about latex as my italian isn't great.when i'm in Sicily next i'll try to find a local store that stocks this paint and see what the cost is there.

Thanks Fillide, that's very interesting and valuable to me.I had a quick discussion with my cousin and he mentioned something about paint with latex in it, like the last in the list of emulsion paints. The price you say also sounds about right to me now that I have learnt that 2 coats would be needed (something I hadn't considered). The paint you mentioned using yourself sounds like good stuff, I'd be grateful if you could let me know the type.

not as confortable on the eye as old forum, seems to be a lot more empty space around content. i don't like change when not needed, probably old age.

as usual, very interesting post Charlotte. i personally don't believe in one size fits all either way. maybe there should be facility for exceptional cases (even in human rights context). in this case maybe people who have risked their life for their country should retain life membership so to speak.

I use a vodafone pay and go sim and an offer called 'internet card' which when activated gives you 300mb for 1 euro per day. inserted in my sgs2 and used as a hot spot. we can also browse on the phone as well with this so i'm pretty certain that it could be inserted in your tablet but not sure if a tablet can be used for tethering. i noticed the product when i registered my card on the vodafone site and activated it just prior to leaving uk. hope this helps.

point flip taken but, the reasons you point out are exactly why i am not responsible. it didn't matter where i parked, millions of euros worth of damage took place in the town that evening. act of god is always mention in insurance talk. if you studied law you'll be aware that it's open to interpretation depending on how well argued it is, instead of people's personal opinion. my argument is that i had absolutely no control over events that took place. i've had a similar situation in this country where an insurance company told me adamently that i was responsible until i took the matter to the ombudsman, then a prompt review took place and the opposite was decided. is there an ombudsman or similar in italy?   thanks.
