Hello,It's me again.I am taking the opportunity to ask as many questions  as I can before our next visit to Italia.Has anybody any advice on making new friends in Italy? My Italian is not good enough to converse in Italian .I was hoping to meet people from the UK in Firenze. However,I haven't had much luck. There is a very large ex-pat American community who seem very nice, but there is no one quite like your own is there? You don't have to explain about M&S or dear old Boots!!Also I find that the Americans are a little bit too unsophisticated in the food and wine dept. They are rather conservative, and tend to prefer the coke and burger or steak scenario.Where do the British tend to hang out in Firenze?

Hi Pixie, Sweeping generalisations about an entire nation aside, I hope things work out well for you in Italy. Do you really want to travel to Italy to talk about M&S and Boots? You could do that at home! My advice...embrace the language and culture and enjoy it - no matter what level your Italian is at, make the effort with the locals and you'll easily make friends.
