Muropop at MondoPOP

An unusual exhibition opens in Rome on Friday: The MondoPOP Gallery and Shop previews, on Friday evening, its exhibition “The Wall – 20 Years after its Fall”.

The aim of the show is to mark the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall by remembering the numerous graphics that appeared on it, first on the western side from the beginning of the 1980s and on the eastern side after its fall. The late Keith Haring is among artists who literally left their mark on the Wall. MondoPOP believes that Berlin Wall art has greatly influenced street and urban art today.

Contemporary artists who are too young to have painted the Wall have been invited by MondoPOP to do so symbolically by painting a “virtual brick” – actually made of wood - which will be inserted into a “wall” of parallelepipeds in the Gallery. The public will be able to buy these bricks as souvenirs and curios.

The aims of the MondoPOP Gallery and Shop are to give contemporary forms of art a home in Rome and to “invade people’s everyday life with art”. Canvasses, toys, poufs, T-shirts and posters are among the items on display.

The 16 artists participating in the exhibition are:

  • Diavù
  • Sten
