Novartis Vaccines, the only vaccine producer in Italy and leader in the meningitis vaccine sector, has announced that the vaccine against meningococcus C is now available in Italian pharmacies.

The vaccine is produced in the Novartis Vaccine plant in Siena.

Researchers are currently studying a vaccine against meningitis B and a multivalent against types A, CW-135 and Y.

Both vaccines have demonstrated high tolerance and the capacity to induce an immune system response even in small children (the first dose was given at two months old).

The goal is to eradicate meningitis, a potentially dangerous disease that has a 14% mortality rate in Italy.
