Florence airport traffic and profit growing

Data presented recently by the Florence Airport current trimester report included profits being up 18%, a passenger traffic increase of 5.8% during the first three months of 2008 and a useful gain of 123.4%.

A more than positive balance sheet for the Tuscan airport, especially following the infrastructure improvements carried out between 2006 and 2007 that allowed for a concrete development in terms of foreign connections.

The Florence airport concentrated on increasing their flights by offering more choices: beginning in March, in fact, Sterling airline flights were increased with service to Copenhagen, Oslo and Goteborg, while Lufthansa increased to 17 Munich flights per week as well as bringing back the Stuttgart connection.

Swiss Airlines also launched new flights to Zurich, meaning three flights daily to Switzerland. Alitalia increased its flights to Rome and Meridiana introduced a Berlin flight.

Luxiair announced a Luxemburg connection once a week from July to September.

The investments made over the course of the last two years and the constant increase in flights and services brought about great results in the increase in passengers during the January-March 2008 period.

The total number of passengers, including arrivals and departures, at the Amerigo Vespucci airport increased 5.8% to 397,153 with respect to the same period in 2007, which saw 375,328.

In April 2008, the number will increase to 577,064 (+4.2% with respect to the same time last year).

The airport showed greater efficiency that translated into consolidated profits that reached 8.6 million euro, with an 18.4% increase with respect to the 7.2 million euro from the same trimester in 2007.
