Hosepipe bans in Italy

07/10/2012 - 08:02

The Regione of Umbria has imposed a ban on using mains water for various inessential uses - such as watering your garden or orto, filling your private swimming pool, or washing your car. The ban lasts into September. There are fines for contravening this emergency order, and lots of people - the local police, the forestry police, etc. - will be keeping an eye open to find contraventions. This ban is likely to be imposed in some areas of Abruzzo soon, (and quite possibly in other regions which I haven't researched), so it would be wise to keep an eye on your local newspapers or ask in the bar!

i was just talking to the men from CIIP our water supply company. It appears that the problem is far more serious than" hose pipe bans" they were saying that without significant rainfall we are risking water rationing which basically translates as water on for only a few hours a day..then off. They highly recomend that people who do not have them put in cistern tanks autoclave this, at least for a domestic household can assure water for a couple of days in the eventuality of water cuts..
