Some people do not seem to suffer the consequences of a world crisis. A Chinese gambling magnate has just paid US$ 330,000 for two white truffles, the largest one from Tuscany and the other one from Molise, at a charity auction.

Just a reminder that the Iris Gardens in Florence will be open this year between the 24th of April and the 20th of May. A magnificent collection with over 2,500 varieties.

Once upon a time... in the Old, defunct Forum (God bless its soul!), we had a very funny thread on Forum Characters. I found the link that shows those characters and it is still very appropriate for the Community. So here you are....

It took us a couple of years to find the right home for us. We were about to give up and suddenly.... it was there. Worth all the waiting for. Good luck!

If you are "importing" your pets into Italy from another EU country under the "Pet Travel Scheme" they will come with their microchip so the vet and the comune will enter those details.

Cages are not needed unless you are using some form of public transport, but you will need a dog guard. I can confirm that it is OK to transport them on the ferry. They do need their "passports", call DEFRA or look at their website.

We started with washing machines and ended up with various other small appliances and gadgets. Regarding the potato masher (ricer) I agree, it makes an excellent puree, but I find it a bit heavy. I always use the small hand-held potato masher, the one that has a flat base with many holes in it, and I get very good results.

I had white Carrara marble worktops made to measure and with grooves so that water will go straight to the sink. This was the most expensive item in the kitchen, but it is an easy to clean surface and it does not require as much maintenance as Travertino - which is also porous - or granite. The cabinetmaker had to make special reinforcements to hold the weight of the slabs, but he did it very well. Don't try to fit one of those slabs on top of one of those kitchen kits. They do need a special structure as they are very heavy.I do not have a single tile in the kitchen.

Hi Sprostoni, I found this old thread from 2006 which may give you a better picture. I do not think that there has been too many changes in the Italian system since then:http://www.italymag.co.uk/forums/general-chat-about-italy/5553-italian-v...

Citrus trees are prone to to white wax scale when the warmer weather sets in. There are special sprays for that. Does it look like this? white-wax-scale.jpg As for the sun, the Australian conditions are extremely hard. I lived there. Lemon trees like sunny positions and I do not think that you would have a situation similar to the Australian one in Le Marche. I have not seen a special oil for Citrus trees sold in Italy. P.S. I could not insert the photo, but have a look through Google and you would find several photos of the damage caused by white scale.
