'lower your standards' should be printed on a t-shirt LOL. I think that's really smart, thinking about how to make it as easy as possible for your friends and colleagues - good advice!

Wow this is amazing, but really? you opened my eyes to things that I didn't even think about (the bar on the trash can, I also only recently discovered this a few years ago lol, now they even change trash can types in Florence). Thank you Thank you, we definitely will be including your valuable advice!!

Hey! How exciting that you are coming to the amazing city of Rome to study. I personally stand by the fact that Italy is very safe but this is a valid question, I would definitely not look for a room too near the Termini train station, it can be a little sketch there at night, but most of Rome is awesome!!!! (think about staying close to main transportation hubs)

Are you thinking to obtain dual citizenship? We actually have a feature on our site about one woman's story if you want to check it out here. It can be a daunting task but I know a few friends who have actually succeeded, even if it took them a year to do so. I think once you get that sorted, you would need a savvy accountant who can help you navigate the mess that is opening a business in Italy ;-). Not impossible but certainly not without hurdles :). I wish you the best of luck!

What a great point Rick, you know I've never even thought of that?! My boyfriend has a car here in Florence and I am happy to be carless since parking in Firenze is a nightmare as is getting parking permission in the historical center. And you're right, already car-sharing is starting here and you can always rent a car for the day..

I did see this app in the itunes app store but it doesn't have the best reviews https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/verbalizeit-voice-translator/id549339304?mt=8, otherwise this one costs 3.99 and looks a little more interesting! https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/travel-voice-translator-linguatec/id563150533?mt=8We wish you luck, keep us posted if one of these worked for you or if you find something better!Georgette: Italy Magazine

Hello! How exciting that you are considering such a move and I can only imagine how stressful this must be. I think if I was in your shoes, I would rent for at least six months in the area i was looking to move in order to get a feel of the place and see how your kids adjust. Sardinia is an amazing place but it can be tough for locals, many leave the island for the mainland to find work, attend better universities. I think Florence is a great bet in that there is a nice community of expats here but as you mentioned before, overpriced tourist rentals. Since you guys don't yet speak Italian, email a few rental agencies that can help you find something for your budget. I recommend the areas of San Niccolo, Santo spirito, piazza beccaria, piazza alberta, bagno a ripoli. which are all very charming and more 'liveable' without being too far from the center. I think Abruzzo is an absolutely beautiful area of Italy, as far as quality of life and what you would get for your euro, it would be higher than both Florence & Sardinia but its an area I don't personally know much about, in this case you will also want to rent an apartment to search for that perfect house and go through an agency likely to do so. I hope that helped at least partly to answer your question. You can always send us links here to anything your agency sends you and we can tell if you the price seems normal.  Best of luck!
