Questions Asked

Evening everyone, We're planning to drive to Bagni di Lucca this year with our dog (Jack Russell called Stan) and was wondering if anyone could advise of some easily accessible  walks (i'd rather not drive for 40 mins up to Abetone every day) Stan

Just got a new camera (Panasonic Lumix FZ28 if you're interested) just learning to use it so apologies if photos look amateurish (essentially because they are!) Will add more as I go along and skills hopefully improve!

Hi Gala, Thanks for checking the comune site, looks like I'm just going to have to drive up into the hills! We're in Ponte A Serraglio so at least we can pop over to the grassy area by Villa Fiori / the New bridge to shake out the morning cobwebs! By the way, do you (or anyone) know what's happening to the river downstream of Borgo a Mozzano? When we were over if February there seemed to be some major works on the go and they seemed to be altering the course of the river.

Congratulations and hope you'll be very happy there! We certainly love Bagni and feel completely relaxed the moment we arrive - very nice when escaping the stresses and strains of modern life!

hi there, we also have a holiday home in Bagni (actually in Ponte a Serraglio) Two best places for cheap furniture are MondoConvenienza just about 2k from Pisa Airport (on the Fi-Pi-Li towards Firenze, or Ikea in Firenza, also easy to get to, take the Autostrada to Firenze from Lucca and take the first exit just after the Toll booths.  We also bought beds from Giannini in Bagni, just past Conad, Christina who runs the shop is really nice and very helpful. Hope this helps

I've had the same quandary myself and I decided that I couldn't face the hassle of trying to make it work so would continue to hire. What I did do though is take out insurance to cover against the excess. What this means in practice is I pay £49 for a years coverage and just take the basic CDW insurance cover on the car hire (the cheapest option) If I should have an accident or something and the car hire company takes my excess I can just claim it back from my insurance. I don't have to declare every time I hire, just claim if I need to. Haven't had to use it yet (thankfully!) so I presume it will work as they say it does should I need it. I do it through https://www.insurance4carhire.com/  again though, I can't vouch for it's effectiveness having never claimed.

Interesting, this place received not very good reviews when it first opened last december so I never bothered to try it. Will certainly do so now. I do find it rather amusing to receive recommendations for my home town here!

Congratulations! Certainly longer than ours - a mere 2 hours though it certainly seemed like longer at the time! I remember our big bugbear was regarding a triangle of concrete 5ft x 3ft x whatever. Apparently it was in the plans as ours but there was a debate whether it was ours or a neighbours - I was quite happy to give it up but apparently that wasn't the done thing!Anyway, enough about our travails, long forgotten as they are, enjoy your new property!

Any idea when the footbridge will actually open for use? each time we come over we think 'it's got to be open now' but no! we're back in 3 weeks - what are the chances? Would love to see Villa Fiori renovated it's a beautiful building and deserves the chance to show it's charms again.

I find a Caxton FX debit card very good. The exchange rate is usually 2 or 3 cents better than high street banks, Funds are pre-loaded  and then you use the card as you would any debit card. Website's here if you're interested...  http://www.caxtonfxcard.com/

all the best with your new place, we bought an apartment near Lucca a year ago and haven't looked back since. One of the unexpected benefits we find is the way all the worries and travails of a hectic London life seem to dissipate the moment we arrive (somewhat assisted by Campari I must admit!)If you are intending to fly to Pisa by Easyjet you may want to consider getting an Easyjet Credit card, use it for all your usual expenditure in the UK then pay it off each month. You'll build up Easyjet airmiles which automatically give you cash credits on Easyjet flights when you book them using the card. We 've managed to get a few free flights this way
