Questions Asked

I have been having a spring clean and I have some boxes of books that I am willing to give away free to anyone who would meet me close to my home to pick them up.

We are having to travel to the UK by car in the next week. Does anybody know if we can buy the 2 breathalysers from one of the garages in Switzerland near the border? Or if not, do you know where we can buy them before we get into France?

Ok, so I have got the modified F24 form, and I have got the printout of my rendita cadastale from the comune, and I have done the calculations. But I am now stuck. What do I put in the following boxes - Sezione, cod. tributo and codice ente????

I have an old house, over 150 years old that I have owned for more than five years. I want to put it on the market but I need to know if I need a certicato agibilita or anything about the energy rating.

We are getting ready to put our house on the market, but I need some serious advice. The house is an old farmhouse, about 150 years old. I have owned it for more than five years and only renovated inside.

Could someone please tell me if I am entitled to have a reduction in my rubbish tax, and if I am, how do I go about it? We have a house outside a village which we use in the summer and an apartment which we use for the winter.

My husband has just reminded me that if you have a car that is over twenty years old you can get very cheap insurance and reduced road tax.

After many years of staying here in Italy, we have decided to make a grand pilgrimage to the UK this winter for Christmas, visiting new grandchildren etc.

Well it is THAT time of year again and I have to renew the car insurance. Up till now I have always used Direct Line because it was the cheapest, but to me it was always extortionate!

We have an Italian dog who is fully vaccinated, microchipped and got his pet passport. Normally, when we go to the Uk we leave him in kennels, but this autumn we intend to go to the UK for some time and are taking him with us.

We do the same as Chris - God Bless Alan H!!! - he has saved us so much money from going through Belgium, Luxembourg, Gotthard Tunnel etc, and the best bit of advice to get round Basel with no traffic! We too stay around Colmar, Mulhouse, Freiburg etc, and try to find new and interesting places to try out. We have always found the Alsace region very welcoming, not too expensive and easily reachable for the overnight stop.

Well I personally hate the only questions and answers format. I have lived out here for 15 years and I don't really need to ask lots of questions, but I do like to get other people's opinions on things. I feel that this format has effectively stopped the support and friendship that we had. I know I really appreciated this. Now the questions are about stuff that most people can find out with a little simple google searching.

Lovely to meet up with hazy and give her our books that we have read. If only there was more opportunity for people to swap and share stuff!

Why make it even more difficult for people to use this forum? Most people see it as a very useful way of exchanging information and knowledge. With this format, it is almost impossible to see if anyone has said anything about a subject before. Why make this change when people were only just getting to grips with the change from the old italymag format?

Thanks everyone. We will set off on Monday and hope that we get through France OK and then try to buy some before we come back. We don't have a problem with drinking and driving rules - I think there should be a nil level - but it is more about the French police having a tendency to pull Brits over for anything! Still, it should be better in an Italian plated car. Thanks for the advice guys.

Yes, we too would be most interested in this. We have no income in Italy, and still pay UK taxes on our pension, but we have had to keep our heads down for some time! It would be good if we could have details of this jurisprudence case. Well done Ram!

Hi Maxine, There is a great festa in Colmurano on 12 -15 July inclusive called Artistrada. It is great fun with performers and street artists as well as artisan stalls and huge pizza ovens making pizzas etc. It all starts in the evening each night and is noisy, brightly coloured and fun for all ages. Also free!  Hope this is of interest to all the family.

How true Angie and Robert! We have a combi boiler which we use for hot water only all through the year, and very efficient too. In the winter months, we huddle into one floor and fill up the wood burning stove with all the spare wood I collect all the way through the spring, summer and autumn - free heating! We looked at solar etc, but could never recoup the cost, so we stick with the old ways.

Thanks for that link. I have tried it out and have found out the numbers that I need to put in the boxes. I can see that codice ente is the code for the comune, but I still don't know what codice tributo is - but I have found the right one to use!
