Does anyone have any idea of how much a geothermal heating system would cost to install in a house that is approx 380m2 v's a cost for a traditional heating and hot water system (oil or gas).

Hi, we have just bought a small estate in Tuscany, just outside Pienza. Our Geometra has been in contact with the Commune and established that we can knock the existing house down and re-build another one of approx 300m2.

Ok... so we have 220 trees in Tuscany - most really quite old and some have formed new trees around an old stump. They are pruned each year by Italian Farmers so we get a really good yeild. We have just come back from Tuscany where we carried out the first press of the season. We took 570 kilos of olives that we took from 18 trees. When we came to collect the oil produced we had 103 litres.I hope that gives you some idea of the quantities involved from old trees that are looked after by Italians who know what they are doing!!

Previous posts on ItalyMag have suggested costs of 10,000 Euros per KM (1000 metres). Obviously it would be dependant on current condition but these are cheap country roads and the figures above are likly to be extremly high. Good luck and please do post how much it actually does cost you.

Thank You for the link to that web site - it was very informative. Do I take it that you are a project engineer for this technology?? If so what information would you need from me in order to provide me with a quote. I understand you are in Amandola?? I am in Tuscany - Pienza and the project is only at planning stage at the moment. Do you work that far away?

The house is going to be a new build. Approx 380m2 and built to all of the current 'building regulations' in terms of insulation (ie walls and roof insulated, windows and doors with double glazing). I am sorry I do not know the technical side of anything else in relation  to the insulation. We are having under floor heating. We were just after a Rough guide to the installation costs so we can see if this is a viable option.Hope you can help.

We are having plans drawn up for one of these pools. The area in which we live, Tuscany, has just passed a law that says that there can be no more 'blue' pools. Therefore our only option would be to have one of these bio lakes. We can have up to 120m2 of lake (although the area for swimming in will only be approx half of that). Costs I think are going to be very high. Our neighbour has just had a 'blue' pool constructed. (He got his plans approved before the laws changed) and his pool has cost him 12,000 euros plus some landscaping costs. We have heard that costs are about double or more for a bio lake but if anyone else has some ideas on cost then that would be really useful.Do not think that these pools need to look natural. You can have them edged in stone and rectangular so they look like a normal pool. You also do not need reeds sticking out of them unless that is what you are looking for. If you are spending a significant amount of money on this then I suppose the last thing you want is to have your new bio lago looking like a farmers pond.Good luck with it and keep us informed.

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed. We really appreciate it. It does sound very expensive though. I will have to negotiate hard (at all time)!!
