I wondered if anyone could explain how to calculate the car tax in Italy, I know it is to do with horse power etc but is there a useful website like our own DVL  site which can allow one to find out how much tax is paid  on say....

Welcome to Italy! But seriously though is this a second home? If so then the tax will be substantially more than if it is your primary abode. The government want to squeeze as much money out of second home owners as they can.A trip to the comune is required to find out more about the taxable status of your property. Good luck.

In Puglia a scaldabagno normally consumes 1.2kw, we had ours on timers. (Some say an instant gas water heater is cheap to run but changing bombole is a fag). However our main source of hot water was a 200 litre solar set up with an integrated electric heater (1.5Kw) for winter operation. If you want to keep costs down, maintain a 3kw supply and use electric scaldabagno. One drawback with an electricly heated tank is that as soon as you run hot water it begins to fill with cold water so you never actually get as much hot water out as it says on the tin... good luck!

Oh bugger! Good luck with that! I feel your pain.

I agree. Find a decent Bricoman store and do it yourself. The electrics are bit different with the Italian zeal for relays but you can rewire it UK style.

My wife adds, dont move to Italy for the weather!

A couple of our Puglia pals moved to Cyprus - just renting as they try to sell in Martina Franca. Tropea in the 'toe' is lovely but what are you actually looking for? Sunshine? Easy living? Crime free? My advice still stands. Rent first.  You will be glad you did. We are renting in Mallorca, very flexible.

The winter can be pretty shitty in Italy, Sicily is not bad though. We moved away from Puglia because you need the woodburner on six months a year. Lots of other aspects are great though, but don't move there for the weather. We are currently in Mallorca. The weather is super nearly all year round. Life in Italy can be tough with the taxes and poor infra structure. Try renting before you buy.
