Questions Asked

We moved into our house in the Val di Vara in November. We signed a contract with Vodafone for 'ADSL tutto flat' which is for local & international calls and Broadband. It is now Feb 5 th and they have still not connected us!

OK so what's the story with buying a car in Italy?

Can anyone give me a ball park figure for installing a 4 x 8 metre salt water pool please. Moving to Liguria in November and would love a pool but we don't know if we can afford it as we haven't a clue of costs.

We have just agreed on the purchase of a house, but we did not go through an estate agency. Does anyone have any experience of the buying process please? The vendors are being very helpful as they have sold and bought in Italy before.

Hi has anybody out there had any dealings with 'March Homes Direct'? If so, what are your thoughts on them?

I've just been looking at some property for sale on line and I have found the same property on sale with 3 different estate agencies, one asking €395,000, another €345,000 and third €299,000! That's one heck of a difference! Is this common?

Does anyone out there live in the area between Comano, Fivizzano, Bagnone and Licciana Nardi? It's one of the areas we hope to look at. The property seems to be reasonably priced and the scenery looks beautiful.

Have had lots of people advising us to rent before buying, which is a gsensible idea but we had thought of buying a camper van so that we have the freedom to travel around to look at properties and save on rent. Any thoughts?

Thanks for all your comments. We don't want to use concrete. It is a large area and will look pretty awful done in concrete. Thanks in particular to mbc. Its good to get an opinion from the horses mouth as it were. I think we'll probably try to knock hime down by a couple of k but are happy to use him as we've seen the quality of his work.

Thanks Penny. The builder has given us a very detailed breakdown of the work to be carried out and the total area(230 m2) He seems very professional and has assured us that planning permission is not necessary for the work. He has given us a price for the job €20000, rather than a day rate. Is that the norm here?

Thanks. I appreciate that getting 3 quotes is a sensible idea but as we ae new here it's hard to find accredited builders to get quotes from. There is a big renovation going on next door to us and the owner has recommended  the builder we got this's quote from.

I couldn't agree more!

It can't come soon enough! I love Venice but last time we were there our stay was ruined by the sight of those great ugly cruise ships which are completely  incongruous in the lagoon. Not only that, but the sheer volume of tourists that they spill out each time they dock is a bit like trying to pour a quart into a pint pot!

Have accessed their help line va their 800 number as we don't get Vod signal up here. They just keep telling me that there is a problem activating the line. I will have a go at using the dongle on my notebook next time were out and about and can get a signal.
