My husband and I are at odds at present about where to start looking for a property. We both want to be in Tuscany, but can't afford the more expensive areas.

Thanks for all the useful comments. I think we are going to buyand insure in UK. I assume that we will have to use an UK address to register the vehicle and insure. The only problem I can forsee is having to bring the car back to UK each year for the MOT.

Thanks for all the comments. So I guess I'm looking at between 20000 and 30000 euros. ..and as for thr salt water thing, the jury still semms to be out, although Smeralda, my brother has a system like yours on his pool in FRance and his pool is always crystal clear. I have to say that my reasons for leaning towards the salt water system are exactly as Smeralda says, much kinder on the skin and eyes!!

We have been informed that we do not even need to use a solicitor. The buyers want to just use the notaio and the geometra. We were informed that once the initial agreement document was signed by both parties and and then stamped and signed by the notaio, it becomes a legal document. Is this right? We are not excluding an agent. we stayed at the house, which was running as a B&B when we went to havea look around the area. The owners informed us that it was for sale and we fell in love with it and decided to buy. The owners are English and have sold another property in his manner.
