I have recently bought a farmhouse in Le Marche and wondered if it is compulsory to make an ICI Declaration ?  I am not living down there permanently as yet and have not applied for residency as yet but intend to move down in February 2010 and apply for residency shortly afterwards. Does it depend on the classification of the property?  If anyone can help it would be much appreciatedThanks James.

My ICI demand came automatically about 12 months after I moved in.The surprise to me was that although I had bought as prima casa (and paid 4% iva) the ICI still applies as my residency hasn't come through yet.I had been comfortably sitting back in the knowledge that I had 18 months in which to get residency, blissfully unaware that ICI was building up all the while I procrastinated.

Some commune [mine included] do not send out ICI notices at all - I have to go to the office to pick up a form and fill it in [including calculating the tax due (which is very easy to do)] I believe that you are liable for ICI until your residency is confirmed [as long as its your Prima Casa]
