I had always wanted to go to Italy. I still have the Italian phrase book I purchased back in 1971.

Periodically, I would cruse the web, read articles, etc. one day an e-mail form Italy Magazine arrived with an article on 'reflexive verbs'. Attached to the article was an Al Bano video.

After listening to the song I checked on the web for everything I could find on Al Bano and Romina Power. This led me to more Italian music and a greater appreciation for what I was missing. I decided that I would like to see Al Bano in concert someday, if I could.

Well, in checking his web-site I saw that he had a fan club and he was going to perform a concert for the fan club in Bologna in March of 2011. I did research on Bologna. It looked like a nice city, not too large, with a very interesting history going back to the Etruscans and the middle ages. It turned out that the Al Bano concert was in a theatre close to the school where I take may Italian language lessons (less than three blocks away). Since I take the lessons over the web- this trip would allow me to finally meet my teacher and other students in person. Everything came together.

You know, sometimes you just 'get a message'! The message for me was- stop waiting, go! I did. It was great!

The city of Bologna was the perfect introduction to Italy. It was a great chance to use my new language skills and meet some new friends. Oh.... and the concert was fantastic! It was everything and more than I could ever have hoped for or dreamed of. Bottom line, if you are thinking of taking that vacation, stop just thinking about it and do it. There is a city in Italy just for you. Surf the country through the Internet. Let your interests lead you to a place you may want to visit. You will have the time of your life.
