James Franco and Frida Giannini
Gucci has announced that they will present a new award at the 2011 Venice Film Festival to honor Women in Cinema. The winner will be chosen by jury selection, with James Franco casting one of the votes.
The American actor will team up with Gucci’s creative director, Frida Giannini, to chose the award a talented woman whose work takes place either on screen or behind the camera.
The recipient will be selected from five finalists, including: Caroline Champetier, Jessica Chastain, Federica Pontremoli, Nansun Shi and Athina Tsangari.
Gucci’s 2011 Women in Cinema winner will be revealed at a dinner hosted by Giannini and Franco on 2 September.
Gucci will also donate $25,000 to the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU to mark the 68th Venice Film Festival.
