Political fireworks in Milan and Naples

Submitted by Fillide on

The second running of the local elections here in Italy happened yesterday and today, (they do this because of some form of PR, so that if at the first elections, last weekend, nobody reaches 50% they have to do it again).

Anyway, in two most important cities the mayors, who were in Berlusconi's camp, have been defeated by centre left candidates.

B & B in Venice

I am planning to drive to Venice in September ( I live in the province of Piacenza) and due to the high cost of hotels I am considering staying in a B & B. I am only planning to stay the one night and that would be a Friday night. Can anyone recommend such a thing.

thanks

BBC iPlayer date

I access BBC iPlayer through My Private Network and it works absolutely perfectly.

Some time ago (I think maybe 12/18 months or so ?), some kind soul explained on this forum how to extend the viewing time by renaming the downloaded file.

Can anyone recall this and re-explain please?

Thanks in advance,

Residence

A short query regarding Residency. I have owned a house here for 15 years which is my only property as I rented back in the UK.

Three years ago I got residency here as I was offered a job by an English travel Company.....which then fell through, so I have been living off of savings. Now due to the Financial situation/credit crunch etc, I need some work which I cannot get here.

Inheritance tax

Submitted by rickb on

Hi,

I have lived in the uk for fifteen years.

My parents have assets in italy and some here in the uk. They have the official residence in italy and they are registered as resident there. They do spend some time in the uk and have a house here.

My question relates to inheritance tax for both cash deposits and property. Would I have to pay tax twice ie. first in italy and then in the uk if i were to transfer the proceeds here?
If I were to "wire" the proceeds to my bank here would the tax man jump on me even once i had paid italian inheritance tax?

Renovation in Grottole

Our wine vault in Grottole is being renovated. The plastering has been done, kitchen and bathroom installed, but still no electricity or water connections. We applied in January, as soon as we signed the contract, and there is electricity and water next door - how difficult can it be? Also, the specially ordered timbers for the loft platform have not arrived yet. The hole for the new window at the back has been made, but the window is not in yet. We were hoping to take possession in mid-June, but that's now looking optimistic.
