We have a house and apartment in rural Marche, and would love the opportunity to see more of Italy, but we have 3 cats who are much loved and need looking after whilst we are away. Any members with property in Italy care to do a house swap?

Half of the enjoyment in eating a meal, especially in Italy is sharing it with friends, and with that in mind one of the best restaurants we have been to locally is in Ascoli Piceno, a place called Il Desco, highly recommend and a beautiful city to visit. With regard to paying huge amounts of money for food and wine, a) we could not afford it and b) to me it seems somewhat immoral....its that puritan ethic again.

Our seasoned oak is lasting twice as long as previous years wood , and burning at a slow hot heat in the stufa...so if you want to do the maths 7e per qt in comparison, maintain you get what you pay for.

Thanks....the stove is on the ground floor and there are windows above, hence going above the roof line, good point Kensington to balance the price against the cost of gas...will pass your advice on.

Thanks Panner, when I told other friends they did joke was it retrospective?.......we will see.

We have just paid 15e, but that is for smaller cuts of seasoned oak....which is performing very well, you get what you pay for in the end and we are happy with the price when balanced against getting the chain-saw out and spending hrs on electricity when we have so many other jobs to do. Olive picking next and will do a post when that is finished...looks like a good year for us.

Sounds very interesting Badger....if there is a next time would you let us know please. We have Italian neighbours and friends who were involved in careing for escaping soldiers from the camp, and have done a tour of the remaining camp in Servigliano, and read some of the books written by ex-prisoners, fascinating stuff. It is such an important history of Marche during those years and should not be forgotten.
