There is rather large (~60 families or more in comune with population of ~1k or so) anglophone community in the town of Introdacqua in Abruzzo.    Mutually supportive community; great food; Abruzzese hospitality.   You can buy luxury townhouse for ~200k euros; many old abandoned houses in need of restoration on the market available for under 50k euros.   You could do worse...

Have gone through this process myself.   Paid zero dogana; all legit and did no tomfoolery.  As examples, you might want to see: and/or    But as Modicasa points out, sometimes nascondersi adds spice to life so sneak if you must....

No sneaking is necessary as the poster already has residency.   The "R" in AIRE stands for residenza....

This is indeed a challenging task.    In my small village there happens to be a highly regarded individual who speaks perfect English, is a registererd travel guide as well as the owner of a spacious villa and several small to medium apartments.   With the aid of his services I believe that your clients would be more than welle served and satisfied.   Although in Italy, the one problem is that he/we are in the village of Valle San Giovanni, a frazione of Teramo in Abruzzo.  Let me know if you/they are interested and I can provide more info.

There are plenty of furnished places around Teramo for ~ 500 euro/month.   Which province do you want to be in?

In my opinon it is not all that confusing.  As simply as possible:1.  BUYING a car and REGISTERING a car are two different things.   My experience is that anyone can buy a car in Italy. 2.  Except for sporadic exceptions noted in the past, likely due to the fact that the rules were inconsistently applied, in general to register a car you need to be a resident of Italy.   I am an Italian citizen, living in Germany for the time being, and am a enrolled in AIRE.  The "R" in this word stands for residency.   I have one car registered in Italy with Italian tags (and another legally registered here in Germany with German tags because I am a a resident here also).   If you are a resident of Italy you can register a car, get an ID card, buy a house at prima casa tax rates, join the health system, and so on.   The downside of residency is that if are a resident of Italy, and also live there (which would exclude you from AIRE) then you can bet that someone is going to come looking for you such that you pay income taxes on your earnings, property taxes whereever it might be located, and so on.   Hope this is clear....

I am temporarily living in Germany.   Helped friend here purchase car in Italy which is now registered in this wonderful Teutonic country.    Not sure where modicasa is getting info from but my personal experience suggests otherwise....
