After moving to Italy things changed for me in a way I could never have imagined. One night I poured my heart out on a forum,(Italymag) I received at lot of help, support and advice from people who didn’t know me but were kind enough to care.

They have been delivering to Italy for a couple of months but the usual cost is 9.50,( per order) which is ok if you want lots but pretty grim if you only want 1 item.I assume its only clothes, don't think they'll send a sofa for a fiver, but if they do I want one!Next euro and dorothy perks also del for £5 ( have used both and they both gave speedy service) so Italy has joined europe at last!now what about Tesco and Sainsburys (if only)

Well this is probably the most interesting thread since we were forced out of the forum, this community thingy clearly isn't working we  ( the old gang) actually liked the banter, bickering, smut, innuendo, humour and of course valuble/helpful info (of which we have seen little on here) of the forum. So I propose "BRING BACK THE FORUM" and stuff the community!

Do you have a house at the end of the road? if so then the commune may be liable to pay for it.It took me 3 years of asking, but after I wrote to our local mayor, he came out to look at it and the commune paid for it, it was done within 8 weeks. They said the reason it wasn't done previously was because I had a landrover! Its worth asking at your local commune, even if you are not resident I think they are obliged to sort it in case you need emergency services to your property.

WARNING- If you have over 5kw and  its enel energia avoid it like the plague, they rang me a year ago and told me they could secure my price for 1 year, like a fool I imagined it would be less than my current price but did'nt check as I was in the middle of cooking, (yes I know) should have checked but too late when the bill came.Nov/Dec bill with Enel  280 euroJan/Feb bill with Enel energia  1100 euro (same appliances, same people in house)When I contacted them they told me pay in 5 days or will disconnect, it took me 4 months to pay it off, by which time I had recieved the summer bill 440 euros (usually about 180) and they won't release you from the contract until all bills paid so now going into a 2nd winter with them, although all the debts cleared they told me it will take 2 months to put me back with the normal Enel, so stuck with it till Jan and no ombudsman or complaints procedure.

For 30k per yr you could have a live in maid, its northern Italy not central London!we are a family of 5(3 teenagers)  living on 2k per month, that includes 3 cars ins/bollo/fuel/services/tyres also bills and food (we grow fruit/veg and have chickens/ducks/rabbits/pigs so food bill is less than 2 yrs ago.Live in Italy- live like an Italian its the only way.

Valentina  I agree with Don l, it sounds like you are happy here and if mummys boy wants to go home let him. If you went back to make him happy and then found you weren't happy you would end up seperating anyway. The health service (I have experienced) has been much better than in uk, I haven't seen any flats or plastic chairs and I don't wear glasses, rose tinted or otherwise!I have 3 kids and in uk my biggest monthly expense was my food bill, when we first arrived here (5 yrs ago) I did feel we were spending the same  but the trick is when living in Italy live like the Italians, the good balance of weather means you can grow so much food.I have 2 freezers both bulging at the moment, it is definately cheaper to live here if you grow your own and freeze/preserve for winter. You have to work hard making bread/cakes /biscuits/passata/preserves etc but the food you get is better and it cost nothing but your time. But you don't have to work hard for someone else and be paid a pitance just to put food on the table.I have an English friend who says it's very expensive to live here and I couldn't understand why until I saw him in the supermarket with a load of proccessed food (why would anybody buy frozen pizza when they live in Italy?) his trolley had lots of cardboard crappy meals and packets of biscuits, fizzy drinks etc.In Uk a lot of people work long hours, have no time to shop/cook so live on expensive unhealthy ready meals, then they get fat, spend £300 a year to join a gym and have to work overtime to pay for this lifestyle. Here they dig over a piece of land, grow some good healthy food enjoy cooking/eating it and know they are keeping fit doing it.The cost of living is dictated by your lifestyle choice where ever you live, if you want to stay find a way. I know I will never want to be anywhere else..Italy is home!
