Severe earth tremors in Atina region (Frosinone, Lazio)

10/12/2009 - 14:21

Whilst Ron was at our house a week ago he said there was a short but very definite earth tremor which caused everyone to come out of their houses and discuss.  He is back in the UK now and a friend from over there has phoned us to say they have had some more quite bad ones over the past few days which have been rather alarming. Is this just in our area, ie Atina in Frosinone, Southern Lazio, or are you getting them as well?  I hope this is everything settling and not the rumblings of a bigger and more serious quake.Maralyn

they are based around frosinone.. and they are below 3 on the richter scale and have nothing to do with the L'Aquila quake...  opinions differ equally between a big one on the horizon  and if they start to go above 3 it will be a bad sign and others that are not concerned by it at all ...in fact it would most probably not even have been noticed if the L'Aquila one had not occured...they are very light... basically they go on almost all the time...  i would have thought it would not have prompted phone calls...  with 50 or 60 relatives living in and around Frosinone have not heard anything from them... maybe wait a while and see how things go...

Thanks for your reply Adriatica.  All the time Ron and I have been in Italy we haven't experienced anything like it before, and Ron has been there for more than a year in the past two and a half years.  I was there on April 6th though. We have been told there are frequent earth tremors, but our friends who phoned us, for a general chat in fact, said these were worse than normal. As you say, we will have to wait and see but I am certainly not going to lose sleep over it.  My house is over 200 years old and still standing as solid as the rock it is built on.Maralyn
