Stufa installation question

02/21/2013 - 14:49

I have a friend residing about 1/2 hour inland from Fermo who just purchased a new pellet stove in Grottazzolina. He told them he wanted a simple basic stove. He then away his purchase. They then sent him a document with the local centre for assistance if he had any problems (but it turns out that does not cover this area only Macerata). He had a new flue system installed and attached to the heater and then basically got it going. He was not informed at the time that a specialized technician was required to do the installation. Afterwards he read in the manual that is it does state it needs installing by a specialized instructor from the parent company but no one at the shop mentioned anything and as it is a DIY type shop selling all types of builders equipment, he assumed there was no problem. When he called the shop, he was given the number of a technician, but the person told my friend that he does not do installations in the Province of Fermo. He rephoned the shop and they have now contacted another technician who is coming from San Benedetto. The shop displays a large quantity of Stufas from 2 manufacturers. He was wondering if others had this problem and also about payment of the technician? He felt that this should have been disclosed by the store and that they should have informed him of the requirements.

Hi Penny, Unfortunately, my friend hasn't explained it all that clearly to me but apparently the stufa is under warranty and now the supplier is sending out a technician to see what the problem is as it isn't working properly.  He just bought it in December.  His Italian neighbors have told him that he should not pay the technician when he comes tomorrow.

yes,we bought a pellet stove (with full guarantee) from a specialist store rather than DIY ,a technician came all the way from Brescia(we're in the marche) to "set the parameters"(?) on it's computerized function, and shortly after had to return again it cost us nothing as the purchase along with full guarantee included this service. i think your friends story is more about appropriate purchasing. In any case they should go to where they bought it (hopefully they haven't paid everything yet(?) (never pay everything until you see it "up and running"and demand they send a tecnico at their expense,IMMEDIATELY threaten them with legal action (even if they haven't (yet) got a lawyer. This can be done nicely at first getting heavier. The store not to have further trouble may well simply send them a tecnico without cost and give them the due guarantee.Tell them only buy simple things from that kind of store DIY is definitely a no way or this kind of complex expensive article.

As Sebastiano rightly says, if you are coughing up €1k+ for any item, get it from a store that specialises or is an agent for that equipment. It may seem like you are getting a good deal by buying it from a DIY type store but if it goes wrong you are usually left in the middle between the store and their supplier, neither one wishing to take responsibility.
