Vinitaly - the world's top exhibition in the wine sector – begins tomorrow, April 6, in Verona and continues until April 9.

This year’s edition has already set a record for the amount of exhibition space sold – 100,000 square meters, dedicated to the celebration of wine.

Two important additions form part of this year’s events:

  • Vininternational, a new pavilion entirely dedicated to foreign exhibitors from major wine-producing countries, including France, Spain, Australia, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, New Zealand.
  • Vinitalybio is dedicated to organic wines, a market on the rise, especially in Northern Europe, North America and the Far East.

Vinitaly is open to both the public and wine professionals and features an average of 3,000 wines from several dozen countries. First held in 1967, VinItaly has been called the "most important convention of domestic and international wines" and the "largest wine show in the world".

For wine producers, especially Italian, attendance and the reception their wines receive is considered a barometer for measuring how the market is doing, especially for emerging wine regions. The event is also an occasion for wineries to present their new wines.

There is also a Wine Competition Award, where wines are awarded medals of Grand Gold, Gold, Silver and Bronze, for each category of wine, such  as dry wine, sweet wine, still wine, sparkling wine, etc.

Since 1996, VinItaly has also awarded a top International Vinitaly Award to wineries and individuals who have contributed to spreading the culture of wine internationally.
