i have posted this question in legal group then found this group which is probably more suitable.

i'm trying to calculate the amount of inheritance tax i am liable for on a property worth €50.000 left to me by my mother in sicily, the rates are available from internet but what i can't work out is if there is a threshhold amount before rates apply simililar to this country. it would be very helpful if someone could give me a rough idea of how much iheritance tax i should have to pay on this property.

I have just purchased an apartment in Menaggio and am looking to update the bathroom, does anyone know of a local company who could supply and fit a new bathroom suite and retile. Many thanks

also, the above is a catastal value which i understand differs from the sale value - is inhertance tax calculated on catastal value or selling value?

We are contemplating starting to purchase euros with US dollars, in anticipation for an eventual house purchase in Italy, which could occur anytime we find a house within the next 5 years or so. We figure that with the exchange rate better than it's been in the past, now may be the time to dollar-cost-average euro purchases.
Our goal is to retire to Italy in 5 years, sell our US home and live full-time in Italy.

Anybody know any more details one day strike as of midnight tonight.We are due to fly tomorrow not sure it's not going to delay us.
