Moving a family to Italy

Hi there everyone,

My husband and I are really interested in moving to Italy. We have 2 small children - a 4 year old son and a 4 month old baby girl, so we were wanting to find out from the online community which part of Italy you would recommend for a family like ours.

I have posted messages before asking about the different areas, but now that I have a growing family, Id like to know where the best place in Italy is for families to live and to raise children?

Dreaded Car Insurance renewal time

Well it is THAT time of year again and I have to renew the car insurance. Up till now I have always used Direct Line because it was the cheapest, but to me it was always extortionate! Last year the insurance was 763 Euros, and this year's renewal notice put it at 818 Euros. Believe me, nothing has changed, I have just got one year older! I found a wonderful site www.assicurazione.it which is just like go compare in the UK. You put in some simple details and it comes out with quotes from 11 insurance companies.

heating advice

Can anyone advise us the best way to heat a very old house with no heating system. Our plumber suggested solar roof pan and a wood/ pellet burner to run central heating radiators. The house is 3 floors with very high ceilings, approx 200sq m. Any help and advice will be most welcome.  Are there any grants available if you are non resident in Italy?

bee, wasp, hornet or???

While harvesting grapes wife was bitten/stung on the arm by an unknown insect. Actually nipped  a bit of flesh away. Reaction has been slight, reddish, swelling and itching.

We have seen yellowish, large wasps or hornets around the grapes, however this is the first time anyone has had a bite or sting. Since she did not see the varmit, not sure if it was this wasp type insect.

The locals call them "gavarones." Have checked (chequed?) the dictionaries with no success. Anyone have any experience with these???

Thanks,

Fred
