our electricity went off last Tuesday 01/03 and only came back after much begging at the ENEL man last night 05/03 at 19.00pm. It was really terrible ,apart from no light,no water (it's all pumped here) no heat (even the fire is eletronically controlled) it went down to 5°c interior temperature.we had to ship out the contents of 4 freezers to avoid a considerable loss,we couldn't work of course with the computer out too.it's now back after this interesting life experience.however of three roads from our place to the rest of the area 2 are closed due to landslides, one may be closed for a very long time as the road has gone down the other has around two hindred quintali of wood and detritous blocking it...Even ENEL had to bring in specialist squads from Vicenza and Padova in order to try to bring back the power to more isolated places and even we are running off enel emergency generators as many lines are still down and with the snow and mud there's not much they can do till it starts to dry out a bit

i have been following this thread with interest.A recurrent aspect that often comes out in these discussions (i think) is that a certain confusion arises between issues that are not "fundamental" national/cultural differences ( vis a vis Italy -uk or some other country)BUT urban/city differences with very rural areas.I mean by that if i go to extreme north west of scotland, central wales hills, rural northumberland etc ,i would be suprised if i found little more than a fairly traditional, monocultural society, with few or no Thai restaurants or sushi bars( as there are no thai's or japs there). The fact seems to be that a number of people in here did not come from those places but from greater london, manchester, new york etc and they have moved to relatively remote areas of italy..in Abruzzo,on the Appennines,up in the lunigiana etc.In these places "you get what you see".It's not very difficult to imagine that the inhabitants of these rural areas who live for the most part a fairly tough agricutural existence may view even with diffidence "ethnic minority groups",just as they probably do in mid wales(where when i went into a pub they stopped speaking english to speak whatever welsh is called)the food was aweful and there were no thai restaurants...The bottom line seems to be that a lot of people want to live with a rural" backdrop" to their lives with EXCELLENT high power broadband,Tesco round the corner (just next to the chinese restaurant)everyone speaking good english,no laws,no burocracy, drive round in a range rover (possibly uk reg.)and a VERY cheap Ryan air connection to london/manchester at less than an hour's drive.......then you really can enjoy sitting round the pool with a drink......

can actually be found in italy. usually with difficulty outside major cities or specialist stores although some better supermarkets have it.it appears that almost the entire production of this "niche" liquer is exported....lots to the U.S.A because ,i believe, they use it in Harvey wall bangers....it's more commonly referred to here as Galliani/o which if i remember correctly is the company that makes it somewhere in the north.....

if you are a REAL campari man then you will be drinking the true campari (bitter cordial)as opposed to the campari soda. Then i would really absolutely recommend that you drink a NEGRONI ,it's not anti pc, it is in fact one of the greatest and oldest italian cocktails it's campari bitter (a lot of ice biggish glass) punt e mes and gin all in three parts with a big slice of orange too. if you can't get punt e mes (an old fashoined bitter piemontese drink) in your bar then you'll have to get them to use red martini until they can get their act together and order a bottle of punt e mes for your aperitivo ...right sir.

i agree with ram, although i'm not up to date with tariffs.i would however (in spite of costs) urge you to consider doing the entire job even if it's divided into circuits because,as said at some stage you will require total certification.if it's done in "bits" this will in time only mean you'll pay more. The part of the house that you won't be using immediately you could leave for example without physical plaques/switches etc but ensure that everything else is in place.i'd also recommend from experience that you don't skimp on power points italian electricians will tend to anyway (ie. one large room with only one power point) this can cause problems later on.of course you can spend a lot of money on "fancy" plaques like walnut root wood and bronzed ones or straight white plastic ones and save suprising amounts (i don't think you want to sit in a room admiring the light switches)ask around your area for a good electrician and you should be able to come up with a reasonable quote.

in 1994 when we first came to this area they had just had a meeting to discuss the problem of parking in Amandola.......it would be interesting to know what they had to say in 2011 on the same subject...no?

i'm afraid, and you'll find shortly that it's not only loro piceno or the province of macerata this problem has been silently boiling away, few were aware of what was about to happen. The same thing is going on all over the provinces of Ascoli and fermo.protest groups are quickly being formed quite honestly the only hope is to stop things as far as they've got where permission has already been granted it'll be almost impossible to stop.there is a meeting in Amandola(where 5 sites have been approved) on saturday 5th feb at 16.45pm in the auditorium with all those who are worried and already protesting about this.Interestingly enough this is a heritage from the previous left wing government and despite evidence that so called alternative energy and green energy solutions have beenwidely embraced by organized crime as an ideal way to launder money the opposition party (at least in the marche) still seems to be under the impression that all this is "a positive development"Anyway there's a lot of people getting very upset by all this and hopefully on saturday there'll be a lot of people it's a public meeting btw anyone can go....
