I was just reading someone called Pat Eggleton who wrote a patronizing article on the home page of this site concerning a proposal by a minister to shorten or do away with altogether with working lunch breaks.the writer may even have been to Italy

The other day our post lady delivered me a registered letter from Roma.it was from the ministero delle entrate...revenue again. As usual it was ,to say the least, almost incomprehensible .From what little one could glean it was concerning their "st

i've just seen that also ASCOLI is set to be cut....but my guess is that they'll go together again Ascoli + Fermo (under ASCOLI) so substantially not a lot would in fact change

unless something unexpected happens all that will change shortly. The new economic budget just emanated from the government has just abolished between 35/38 provinces (that would include Fermo) as well as the elimination of 1.500/1.900 municiplaties thru regrouping into larger new comuni.so we'll see what happens next...

like the marche Toscana probably has one of the greatest concentrations of use of garden/orto tools in the country.Evidently you are looking in the wrong places (actually intrigued as to where you are looking)if you look around where you are you'll see that almost everyone has an orto. You can find italian hoes (they're slightly different from english ones) and a wide variety of spades (forks are generally less used but you can get them) from: agricultural consorzi, most hardware stores, many street markets sell the "heads" of tools to which you fit the handle of your choice, less good (because less robust) you can get the more "british style" garden tools from places like BRICO centres a sort of diy department store chain that is everywhere.ask a neighbour the best local place to get the stuff.Personally i would not get this sort of thing "on line" as it's nice and important to feel have a look before you buy them..

i agree....doesn't do much for security either...we are at 1.500 ft. close to Abruzzo, the houses have relatively small windows to keep heat out...and to keep heat in according to the season. The idea that you sit around inside looking out at the view/garden just doesn't happen because in summer and winter one is outside most of the time when you're in it's to eat/sleep/look at pc/read/computer etc for which one doesn't require a factory gate style window...oh and someone i knew put on his house pvc guttering! after four years it disintegrated!

you wrote this on the 7th of july...for the last two weeks it's been cold and wet...tomorrow is the 29th of july..still raining  but ,apparently, around here(southern marche) it's not going to be nice until around wednesday...thats the 3rd....usually by around the 20th of august the weather starts breaking up with the first storms and the shorter days...more or less you can say it's the end of the feckin summer....

given that it's advisable to have an electrician mount these they usually supply them too. all our bathrooms have quite large ones as there are no windows in the bathrooms they suck into tubes which have vents at roof level.

I'm not saying that EVERYONE in here is a Guardian or Economist reader (both journals we know have always, for reasons beyond me, a very strong anti Italian lobby dating back at least thirty years) however just to put a stone on some theories 1. The Euro is definitely not going to go away.2. Italy will not leave nor will it default from the Euro.3. There will be no "new lire". This does not mean that Italy does not have vast problems which it has but the frequence of the usually vitriolic attacks concerning the Euro in the British press, country in which it has been recently ventilated may have to place a 12p. to the pound tax permanently to avoid bankrupcy.. does make one think.Personally i believe that we will see the UK in the Euro within 20 years.

This person is Canadian. He was very cunning. He designed and got done his own house in Monte San Martino then thru contacts( presumably) he got it featured in a leading magazine one of those "fancy" highly followed ones specializing on houses/restorals/country houses etc. It all coincided with the housing rush of a few years ago in the area (Southern Marche) we even had people looking for him because,it appeared they wanted bird bath wash basins too! and the minimalist look in a rustic context. He did (in all fairness actually complete some projects) made "friends" with local tradespeople, suppliers/ builders etc and told everyone (including me) that he was truly motivated to the restoration/repopulation of these beautiful local villages. So everything was hunky dory.He used to get his clients to forward him the money for the various tasks/building works/tradespeople etc without having them come over specifically in other words a rapport of trust. Then suddenly he disappeared. Then all the worms came out of the woodwork.Alot of people lost quite a lot of money. One i know was "happy" he only lost 15.000,00 which he had to pay again to the parties involved.Several tradesmen lost a lot too.One our plumber was lucky he was given a cheque and asked to wait a week to cash it in instead he did it next day and got his money but all the others had a piece of paper..everyone felt betrayed (apart from the loss) the police were involved briefly and uselessly but he was already gone believed to be in Canada the total amount missing was it was said in excessof Euro 1.000.000,00...fortuately there are plenty of honest italian architects to compensate for his disappearance.Anyway thats the saga.

hi, i had to write simply because Anne's reply (in good faith i'm sure) however the person in question did a runner with over 1.000.000,00 Euro of client's money..causing not a small amount of damage as you can imagine.Yes there are however registered Italian architects in the area who do speak english/some english/or provide them selves with adequate interpreter facilities.IF you mail me i'll get a couple of names/contact addresses for you.
