On the Avon uk site there are 47 skin so soft products - with all types of oil - I reckong this is it? http://shop.avon.com/shop/product.aspx?pf_id=45291 but then there is skin so soft bug guard spray, and all sorts - could an expert in the field point us newbies in the right direction, or become an Avon rep in Italy? You'd make a fortune!

I saw all the palios for several years, and got it down to a fine art.  The four days before the race itself on 2 July there are the trials - one at 9 in the morning and one in the afternoon - they are not well attended, except for the Senesi - and you do get an idea of what it will be like.  The day before they have (in teh afternoon) a type of dress rehearsal which is great.  its free to sit in the bleaches and watch - and the carabinieri ride round the piazza like demons - its great fun.  On the day itself there is a morning trial - the provaccia - where they just trot round very slowly and everyone boos.   At about 3pm the square starts filling up - its anightmare - you cant sit in the bleaches which are booked, so you need to stand in the main square and tehre is nowhere to drink, sit or go to the loo for 4 hours.  Avoid it.  Watch it on telly, and then leg it up to the church - I think its San Sebastiano in July where the victoious rider is taken and everyone cries and shouts and they plonk him on the altar and sing a Te Deum.   The historical procession on the day of the palio goes all round the city - best place to watch is onthe steps of the Duomo - and its a great spectacle - just teh costumes cost 4 million last time round - (thanks Monte dei PAschi) - but avoid the race itself, and the days leading up to it are much more fun.

Ive never heard of these things - sounds like you could do with some bat boxes or investigate if it has a natural enemy.  On a different track, a friend of mine found that she was always bitten much worse when she was menstruating - so you could be looking at drastic remedies!   You will need to eat alot of marmite - which is fine for marmite babies - so your sweat has a marmite tang.  I got bitten much less when I was Vegetarian - so its all to do with being appealing to the little buggers for some reason.  now I eat some meat, I obviously pong right.

Marmite does it for me,  - On Regent street last Xmas with the marmite Xmas lights, there wasnt a midge to be seen!   For mozzies I use Off! and that works a treat too.

IN Aquila everyone was told to go home and go to bed despite the tremors.

That depends on your point of view.  A series of alarms ignored, a calming message, that 'theres nothing to worry about' go home and go to bed.  Doubt it would have happened in Japan.  Without knowing the whole story ridiculous seems a little harsh.

If you buy a little car - an old panda or fiat uno etc - it wil cost about 350 for the passaggio di proprietà.  You will have the bollo - car tax - annually - which is calculated on horsepower - so about 170 euros, and the insurance - which will start at class 14 and be about 500 euros pa for an ancient runabout. (3rd party only) If you buy a car over 25 years old you can enter under the classic cars and pay flat rates of bollo and insurance if you dont exceed a certain mileage which in your case would be quite limited.  My advice would be buy an old old car - fiat 500 original, fiat 600 original, ancient old merc 250 and that bizarrely will be cheaper to run than a jaloppy from 10 years ago.  If you want something reliable and relatively new your prices go way up.
