It is our first summer in our house nears Ferrara. Our property is adjacent to a canal so we have a lot of mosquitoes in the evening. Is anyone aware of an effective repellant that does not contain a signify amount of deet?

Hi. We are building a kitchen in an annexe of our house in Italy. We need a plumber to connect the sink to the drainage system and sign the documents for the Commune. Unfortrunately all of the plumbers we have contacted are unwilling to sign.

Thanks Ugo. Unfortunately although the electrician is able to sign for the electric work he has not been able to find a plumber to sign.
The commune requires him to sign the application for planning permission to say he is doing the plumbling work on the project. The project involves adding a kitchen sink to a small cottage in the grounds of the main house- so not part of the main building. The electrian is also required to sign but fortrunately our electrician is happy to do so- its just finding the plumber who will sign that is holding things up now. Thanks.

We recently bought a house in Emilia Romagna dealing direct with the owners- no agent involved. It was fairly smooth although transferring the utilities to our name seems to be a challenge!
We recently bought a house as a second home in a very small village in Northern Italy. We are just learning Italian but have become friends with a number of local people - mostly through our need for trades people, shopkeepers and restaurant owners. We seem a bit of a novelty as there are not other Brits in the area. Although we’ve only owned the house for a few months and even though it’s the winter we have had a steady flower of visitors from the UK. Our daughter loves the place too and us brilliant bring a group of girlfriends our in the summer. I would suggest you need to ensure there is enough to do in the local area- we wanted to be close to a town and the beach both of which are 20 minutes away. Maybe look at a few other areas as you do seem to have doubts. Good luck.
I should mention that we used Intesa Sanpaolo and have been very impressed.
We are from the UK and recently opened an Italian bank account. You need your Code Fiscale and found that it wasn’t possible to open one on line. So we made an appointment at a large branch of a bank in a city (hoping that there would be someone who spoke English). The process took several hours and we nearly had to give up because we didn’t have an Italian phone number, but somehow we succeeded in the end.
