The 39th edition of Arte Fiera Bologna, Italy’s most important event dedicated to modern and contemporary art, kicks off this Friday.

The four-day event features 188 galleries exhibiting 2,000 works of modern and contemporary art by 1,000 Italian and international artists.

This year, the spotlight is on the masters of the 20th century, as well as on the main artistic figures of the present and up-and-coming young talents.

The inaugurating event, scheduled for Thursday, with the participation of painter Michelangelo Pistoletto and Italy’s Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini, will emphasize the importance of the defense of Italian contemporary art, its artists, the gallery owners and the collectors, both public and private, who invest in it.

On Saturday, the traditional appointment of Art White Night returns with an evening of performances and events dedicated to contemporary art and artists. Bologna’s contemporary art galleries will be exceptionally open until midnight. The initiative will also involve historic palaces, stores, restaurants and bars.
