If you’ve always wanted to try tortellini (and tagliatelle and lasagne) in the place where they were invented - Bologna, Italy - now may be the perfect time: the city is enticing travelers to visit by offering one night free for any two nights booked at participating hotels until April 11, 2022.

This offer, promoted by the Bologna’s tourism office, includes a free tour of Bologna’s famous porticos, which were inscribed by UNESCO in its World Heritage list last summer. Recently, I had the chance to get a sneak peek at the tour, which was very informative, with interesting facts as well as fun anecdotes about the history of the porticos, how they differ from one another and the best places to eat and drink under their protective arcades.

So how does the ‘Bologna Welcomes You’ promotion work?

  • Click this link to select your dates of stay and find available hotels;
  • Before you click ‘search’ make sure to insert the discount code BWY22;
  • Browse hotels and book - the 50% discount is shown next to the rate only on eligible hotels (all hotels available during the dates you selected will be shown). You may want to filter by ‘rate’ to find discounted hotels quicker;
  • After you’ve booked, will receive a voucher that you can use to take part in a free portico tour.

Please note:

You must book over a weekend, such as Friday to Sunday or Saturday to Monday.

You must book at least 24 hours in advance.

On Easter weekend (April 8-11), the last weekend included in the promotion, you must book two nights in order to get one free.

In addition, you will also get a 15% discount on tours offered by the Bologna Tourist Office, conveniently located in Bologna’s central Piazza Maggiore, and a 15% discount on Bologna’s Welcome Card, which gives you free entry to museums, a free intro tour to Bologna and entry (or better, climb!) to the medieval Asinelli Tower, on top of which you can admire a beautiful view of the city.
