Enel to build wind farms in U.S.Italian energy giant Enel and the US's General Electric Company (GE) plan to build a 101 MW capacity wind farm in the state of Kansas.

The project is for 56 Vestas V80 turbines each with an 1.8 MW capacity. The new wind farm is expected to be able to cover the average electricity requirements of 37,000 households in Kansas.

The project is expected to be finalised in the first months of 2008.

Meanwhile, in late December 2007 Enel and GE signed the Snyder project with a 63 MW capacity. Snyder will be built in Texas and will consist of 21 Vestas V90 wind turbines with a 3.0 MW capacity each.

The wind farm will be cover the needs of 12,000 Texan households.

The two projects are the first investments of GE Energy Financial Services, GE's energy sector investment division, and Enel in wind energy.
