Parma is the best city in Italy for 'eco-mobility' - a term which encompasses public transport, traffic management, use of eco-friendly vehicles and keeping smog under control - a new report said on Wednesday.

After Parma came Bologna, Florence, Venice and Padua respectively, according to a ranking contained in the study Sustainable Mobility: Fifty Cites in the Spotlight.

At the bottom of the list was Taranto and just before it came L'Aquila and Campobasso.

The study, the second of its kind, was produced by the national association of mobility managers Euromobility and Kyoto Club with the collaboration of Assogasliquidi and the Ecogas Consortium and sponsored by the environment ministry.

Among the variables taken into consideration in drawing up the ranking were car sharing, collective taxis, logistic platforms for freight, mobility management, air pollution, bicycle paths and express lanes.

''This report not only measures the number of actions which have been taken but also their effectiveness and efficiency,'' explained Euromobility's scientific director Lorenzo Bertuccio.
