Has anyone any idea if the Italian Poste has the equivalent of a bankers draft and if so, are there are any limits on the amount and what is the cost...?

Anyone care to hazard a guess at the current cost to have an old(ish) 250sqm house rewired? Also do you know if they do low level voltage lighting? Finally the house is in effect split in to your normal 2 parts with downstairs being still virtually (and on plans as ) storerooms. Is it possible to only have the upstairs rewired regards certification etc and cut down costs (doubt if we ever intend to join upstairs and downstairs as one)?

Having read a number of posts and comments on this site which constantly bemoan the lack of professionalism and honesty of Italian real estate agents, the Italian legal system and the general issues surrounding the purchase and restoration of houses in Italy, I would like to send a bouquet and provide a word of warning.

Does anyone have any tips or advice on getting a permesso di soggiorno?

I know that I need one as a non-Italian, living in Italy, but the guidelines are unclear.

I've picked up the packet at the post office and given them all my documents. I've even been to the police station and been fingerprinted.  Now I'm not sure what to do?  How do you pick up the actual permesso di soggiorno? How do you know when it is ready?

Are there any recommended property lawyers in Siena province?  We are (possibly) looking to make an offer on a unrestored farmhouse near Abbadia San Salvatore in Southern Tuscany. A lawyer in Siena or one of the larger Southern towns wd be best.  Thanks  Robin
