There was once a very important and self indulgent potato who had three daughters. One day his eldest daughter said that she had fallen in love with a fellow potato and wished her father's consent to marry him.

As with most things in life there will be winners and losers. For example anyone buying outright at start of 1999 will have seen a currency gain in sterling terms of 38%. (start 2000 +57%).

Alan, from other questions, which I've answered, it may be 85.5 or 88.5 but can't see why and not sure.

As a ballpark figure you are probably talking around €1,500 per m2 (I would imagine prices in Sicily to be similar to Sardinia) for what in the UK would  be considered a "good" build. (ie essentially good but not top end finishing etc).

Fox, your quoted price looks very good value to me. But i'd investigate other insulation methods if I were you as other people have said on here.

Your individual circumstances could be different for some reason. (I've tried to edit my post by inserting "normally" but can't do for some reason) so for your peace of mind its probably better to check out again with ammin. especially where the conract and liablity rests. Its quite, common, for bills to be shared according to floor space. For example, someone with 100m2 will pay double compared to someone with 50m2. You seem to imply that your share of the bill is significantly higher, however,  than others? Is there a reason for this?

I'm not sure there is too much you can do in practice. The contract will between the block of flats and the builder, not between you and the builder. The amministratore is the key figure here. It is his role to price up projects like this, employ builders etc. Any worries you have, you should raise with him. He is after all employed and paid by you (and the other flat owners) to look after your collective interests and can probably be voted out every year if you are unsatisfied with him as a group. Always good to be on friendly terms with your amministratore. Good ones can help you a lot.

Angie and Robert, if your concrete base is sound then its not too big a job to tile over if thats what you want to do and obviously depending on the tiles you choose expect to pay something in the region of €30m2.  If you have to reconstruct or renew the base (with reinforced concrete and ties)  then you are probably talking a price upwards of €70 m2.

This is my take. There are issues with site navigation but on the whole this is a cleaner and more helpful arena. If someone asks a question, generally there will be helpful replies. I don't really see what the problem with this is? Thats what I thought a "community" was about...mutual self help. If some see this as boring, maybe its because their vested interests have now been kicked into touch. I was a member of the previous site but rarely posted. Why? Because, towards the end there was little real help ever offered (but the opinions..... I did'nt really need that).  A question would be asked in good faith. Sometimes it would be answered but often the thread would be hi-jacked and take twists and turns into a completely different realm. I think its not too difficult to find out where the "other site" lurks. Change a letter from a post above and  you are there. Have a look. IMO, very little in the way of useful advice. And my qualifications to say this? Never once advertised on here. Been in Italy off and on since 1985. Now ten months of the year. Employ two workers directly and a second company where I am associated employs overs twenty people. And, yes, I've done La Dolce Vita in London (unsubsidised).
